According to the latest announcement by the RBI, silver will be eligible to be used as collateral for loans starting from April 2026. Silver ornaments/jewelry are now formally included as eligible collateral for small loans, with new rules setting collateral eligibility at 10 kilograms of silver versus 1 kilogram of gold for loans up to ₹2.5 lakh (approximately $3,000 USD), effective April 1, 2026.
