Heritage and Cultural Tourism in Bhaktapur District: Changu Narayan Temple
Changu Narayan is one of the most important monuments of the Kathmandu Valley, situated 18 km east of Kathmandu city and standing 1,541 meters above the sea level. This monument is significant from artistic, religious, cultural, historical, and archaeological viewpoint. The Lord Vishnu residing in this place is worshipped by Hindu as Narayan and Buddhist as Hari Hari Hari Vahan Lokeshwor. This is one of the seven world heritage sites of the Kathmandu Valley, listed on UNESCO’s world heritage site in 1979. The history of this site dates back to 3rd century AD.
