With an initiative of a proactive community, the school begun by conducting teaching sessions in a small wooden house. Muktugangai, and Mr. Hari Chandra Rajbanshi generously provided that piece of land to the school authority. Soon after in 2023 BS, late Mr. Hanga Singh Rajbanshi, a resident of Haldibari ward no. 4, made a contribution of 3-bigah of cultivable land to the school. Sthal Kumari Rana, a resident of Kathmandu, made a generous charity of 4-bigah of cultivable land in 2014 BS. Both of these cultivable lands are being effectively utilized for the benefit of the school today. Geography structure
Saraswati Primary School is located in Haldibari VDC of Jhapa district, Mechi zone. The headquarter of Jhapa is Chandragadhi, which is at a 4 km distance from the school. The school effectively serves entirely ward no. 1, 3 and 4 and a part of ward no. 2. The service territory of the school comprises of absolutely flat lands. To the east of the school lies Deonia River and Bhusudi River runs down the west. Harchana forest rests on the north of the school and Parakhopi market prospers on the south. A rich tea cultivation surrounds the area of the school. It is very convenient for the community to commute to the school. Despite that, small potholes along the way pose minor problems for the students during monsoon. Since the school faces the east, it gets the warm morning sunrays and soothing breeze of the east, both of which makes the atmosphere of the school healthy. The roads that lead to the school are all constructed using gravel and sand. Social structure
Saraswati Primary School serves a number of villages and colonies (toles) that includes Parakhopi, Dukhiya tole, Nayabari, Haadiganj, Raigaun, Jivanbari, Kulubari and Gayinbari. In a close proximity operates a private boarding school at a distance of half a kilometer from the school. In the service territory coexists a population composed of various ethnic groups. Although a majority of people are the indigenous Rajbanshis, other groups that dwell in the area belong to Brahmin, Kshteriya, Sataar, Kurmi, Rai, Darji, Tamang, Magar, Kami, Karmakar, Dhimal, and Sharma ethnicities. The major cash crop of this place is rice although tea cultivation has gained recent popularity amongst farmers. A large number of people work as laborers in these farms for a living. A small segment of people are also engaged in business of timber and cement. People belonging to such diverse ethnicities tend to practice their own culture, tradition and religion independently. However, a majority of them follow Hinduism. Amongst prominent destination of pilgrimage value are the Durga temple and the temple of Ram-Sita of Parakhopi market. A fair is held on a third day of our Vijaya Dashami festival Durga temple of Parakhopi every year. There also is a temple of Laxmi-Narayan at Nayabari village to the north of the school. The area benefits from a government-operated and two privately owned health centers. Additionally, there is a sub-branch of Red Cross Society not far away from the school. Almost every corner within the service perimeter of the school enjoys electricity and telephone service. People also have been able to take advantage of a mill where they process their homegrown crops. Farmers market operates in the Parakhopi market twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. In the evening of the rest of the days, people sell gundris (traditional mats manufactured from hay and straw). The shops around the market sell food, groceries, electrical and electronics etc. Economic structure
The chief source of income of Saraswati Primary School is agriculture. The school earns by means of leasing out its available 7-bigah land for various purposes. Apartment from this, the school depends on the grant provided by Nepal government. Developmental infrastructure
At the available spaces in the concrete buildings, lower secondary level classes can be conveniently conducted, which shall be a vital leap for the school. Tea cultivation can be practiced in the available land under school’s ownership, which will further help in consolidating school coffers. The fund thus amassed can be utilized for the prosperity of the school. Physical status
The school today owns 8-bigah, 6-kathas of land. On 1-bigah, 6-kathas, stand three buildings constructed for the school. Rest 7-bigahs is being used to cultivate rice. The east, west and the north sides of the school premise are secured by barbwires. Recently, a guard quarter has been erected on the northeast of the premise. The main entrance of the school is iron gated. A hand-pump has been installed on the south side of the school premise beside concrete restrooms. Out of three school buildings, one is a large 7-room tin-roofed concrete facility, which houses an office, a store and five teaching classes. The construction of other two buildings have been recently completed.
