Green Hydrogen Lab, Kathmandu University extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Biraj Singh Thapa on his appointment as the Registrar of Kathmandu University.

For the Green Hydrogen Lab, Dr. Thapa’s journey has been one of vision, perseverance, and pioneering innovation. As the founding Team Leader of GHLab, he has played a defining role in advancing green hydrogen research and building Nepal’s emerging hydrogen ecosystem—from research and technology development to collaboration with government and industry.

Under his leadership, Kathmandu University has reached several milestones in Nepal’s green hydrogen journey, including the establishment of the country’s first green hydrogen refueling station and successful testing of a hydrogen-fuelled vehicle.

As he takes on this new responsibility, we are proud to see a leader who helped shape GHLab’s vision for a sustainable, hydrogen-powered Nepal move forward to serve the University in an even broader capacity.

Congratulations, Dr. Biraj Singh Thapa, on this well-deserved appointment. May this new chapter bring continued leadership, innovation, and transformation to Kathmandu University.

From KU to IIT Delhi–Abu Dhabi: Advancing the Next Generation of Energy Researchers

The Green Hydrogen Lab, Kathmandu University, is delighted to congratulate Sâksham Ghimire , a Chemical Engineering graduate of Kathmandu University and a postgraduate of the KU–IITM programme, on beginning his PhD journey at IIT Delhi–Abu Dhabi.

Saksham will pursue his doctoral research on:
“Techno-Economic Assessment of Hydrogen Production Pathways for Energy Transition”

His research addresses a critical dimension of the global energy transition—understanding the technical and economic pathways through which hydrogen technologies can move from emerging concepts to viable and scalable energy solutions.

It is particularly encouraging to see our graduates progressing from chemical engineering and hydrogen research into advanced energy technology and doctoral research, contributing to the growing body of knowledge needed for a clean and sustainable energy future.

At the Green Hydrogen Lab, we believe that building people and knowledge is as important as building technologies. Saksham’s journey is a reflection of that vision and of the growing community of young researchers working to shape the future of energy.

An inspiring journey of Prof. Rajesh Saiju, a Nepali academic and energy researcher who turned challenges into opportunities and is now contributing to education and research in renewable energy, hydropower, energy systems, and green hydrogen in Germany.

His journey, from facing language barriers while seeking employment to becoming a university professor, shows the value of perseverance, continuous learning, and research-driven innovation.

We are grateful for his initiation of the collaboration with Kathmandu University to advance renewable energy and green hydrogen initiatives with knowledge exchange in Nepal.

The Green Hydrogen Lab is proud to announce the launch of the book Green Hydrogen in Nepal: Strategic Pathways for Deep Decarbonization and Industrial Transformation.

The book examines the role of green hydrogen in accelerating Nepal's energy transition, enabling industrial decarbonization, strengthening energy security, and creating new opportunities for green industrial development.

We are particularly honored that the book was officially launched by Prof. Bhola Thapa, Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University; Prof. Bivek Baral, Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University; and Prof. Bhupendra Bimal Chettri of Kathmandu University.

This milestone is especially meaningful for the Green Hydrogen Lab, as two Vice-Chancellors from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Kathmandu University joined us in celebrating this achievement.

This publication represents years of research, collaboration, and knowledge generation by researchers, faculty members, students, and collaborators associated with the Green Hydrogen Lab. We sincerely thank every contributor whose dedication and hard work made this publication possible.
