AGO
Rule:
Used to talk about how long before the present time something happened.
Structure:
Time + ago

Use:
Past time from now
BEFORE
Rule:
Used to mean earlier than a particular time or event.
Structure:
Before + noun / time / clause
Examples:

Earlier than another time/event
