Ago vs. Before

AGO
Rule:
Used to talk about how long before the present time something happened.
Structure:
Time + ago
Examples:
• I met him two days ago.
• She left an hour ago.
• We moved here five years ago.
Use:
Past time from now

BEFORE
Rule:
Used to mean earlier than a particular time or event.
Structure:
Before + noun / time / clause
Examples:
• I had seen that movie before.
• Finish your homework before dinner.
• She arrived before me.
Use:
Earlier than another time/event
