Paddy Plantation Festival (Ropai Jatra)

Fifteenth of Ashar is the day when the crop planting season officially begins. In Nepal, Ropai Jatra has a deep cultural and livelihood value.

On this day, people gather at their paddy field where men and women work together making the land suitable for planting the paddy. The joy of playing in the mud while planting at the paddy field, eating Dahi-Chiura (yogurt and beaten rice), dancing, and singing the Ropain Geet (traditional planting song) is what people usually do on this day.
