Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is Norway’s largest university, with eight faculties, the University Museum and more than 42 000 students and 7400 full-time equivalent employees (2018).

NTNU is the primary Norwegian university in engineering and technology, but it is also a full range university. More than 360 PhD-degrees are awarded yearly (2017) within the fields of technology, science, arts and humanities, social sciences and medicine, of which 43 per cent are international PhD students. The university has a wide international network and participates in more than 120 Horizon 2020 projects and has 9 ERC grants (August 2017).

NTNU has a strong focus on innovation and entrepreneurship and works in close collaboration with the research institution SINTEF. NTNU is ranked as number one in the world in collaboration with industry partners, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (March 2017).

NTNU has four strategic areas of research in 2014–2023: sustainability, energy, oceans, and health. The university is the host or partner for 35 large research centres. Acting rector is Anne Borg.
