The midnight sun returns to Hamarøy in late May, bringing endless light and awakening the wild, raw beauty of Northern Norway🌄
With its striking peak Hamarøyskaftet, dramatic landscapes, and coastal views, this area offers a unique and powerful setting for storytelling on screen.
Few places match the atmosphere and light you’ll find here.
Hamarøyskaftet is also popular among climbers, which can be viewed as silhouettes from a distance- climbing during the midnight sun✨

Some of the mountain roads in the arctic can look quite amazing in the spring. Like this road in Andsfjellet near Bardufoss. The mountain has a radar on top, so the road up the mountain needs to be cleared of snow and easy to access.

Cinematographer Jannicke from Svalbard – first Norwegian in space! 🚀
As the first astronaut from Norway ever, cinematographer and film director Jannicke Mikkelsen, usually based in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, is launched in space on board the Dragon spacecraft, now orbiting the Earth! We are totally thrilled - congratulations!! 👏👏👏
Being vehicle commander of the SpaceX-owned spacecraft, Jannicke Mikkelsen is part of Fram2, the first human spaceflight over the Earth’s polar regions. From this unique perspective Jannicke will be filming the polar areas, providing exceptional footage of Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) and other polar phenomena in space. The filming is coordinated by UNIS, the University Center in Svalbard.
During the 3,5 days spaceflight, Fram2 aims to provide a deeper understanding about our planet and its polar regions. The mission is named after the original Fram ship, used by the Norwegian polar explorers Nansen and Amundsen that first reached the Earth’s polar regions in the 1800s. Fram2 honors the adventuring spirit of early polar explorers while reaching new milestones for technology, commercial space travel and research.
