Mark Heron – World-renowned Scottish conductor and teacher to Join Conductor's Week 2025!

Mark Heron is a renowned Scottish conductor, known for his dynamic and well-rehearsed performances of an unusually broad repertoire. He has guest-conducted most of the BBC orchestras, Philharmonia, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Scottish National, Manchester Camerata, Psappha, Meininger Hofkapelle, and many others. He is currently the Music Director of Nottingham Philharmonic.

With extensive expertise in contemporary music, Mark has collaborated with some of the greatest living composers. He has recorded over 20 CDs with the RNCM Wind Orchestra and Manchester Camerata, with releases on prestigious labels such as Chandos, Naxos, NMC, ASC, and Polyphonic. His performances have also been broadcast on BBC Radio.

Mark is also a highly regarded conducting teacher with an international reputation. He is a professor and head of the conducting program at RNCM, where he leads some of the world’s most renowned conducting programs. He is also a visiting professor to the Royal Air Force and is regularly invited to teach masterclasses around the world.

In 2025, Mark Heron will be teaching at the conductor's course during Conductor's Week, and we are incredibly excited that he will be sharing his expertise with the participants! This will be a unique opportunity for anyone who wants to learn from one of the best in the field.

Påmelding for Dirigentuka er åpen for 2025, og som alltid er det et kurs for alle!

Her vil du ha mulighet til å lære av dyktige mentorer som Cathrine Winnes, Mark Heron, Julie Røssland, Morten Wensberg, Bjørn Breistein, Bjarte Engeset og flere.

Du kan velge mellom totalt fem forskjellige kurs, i tillegg til et valgfritt forkurs. Disse tilbyr et variert program, med teknikktimer, masterclasser og et bredt spekter av dirigentrelatert stoff, som passer for dirigenter på alle nivåer.🪄

I tillegg til det praktiske vil det være tre fellesforedrag i løpet av uken. Blant annet kommer David Hveem for å dele kunnskap om ledelse av rytmisk musikk.🎶

Dirigentuka arrangeres i Stavanger av Norges Musikkorps Forbund, i samarbeid med UiS Fakultet for utøvende kunstfag og Sparebankstiftelsen DNB.

We are happy to announce that renowned conductor Martyn Brabbins will be leading this year's masterclass with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra during Conductor's week 🤩 He is former music director of the English National Opera and guests with top international orchestras. The 8 active participants in the masterclass will be working with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra in a program of Elgar's Enigma Variations and Beethoven Symphony no. 3, 1st and 2nd movement.
