☀️ Meet Tonje!

Tonje currently teaches our online Norwegian courses from A1 to B2, but some of our Stavanger and Oslo students might recognise her too! In previous years, she has taught in both of our classrooms. 💙

If there’s one person who understands that learning a language takes time, it’s Tonje. She has been a language student herself, and not always a successful one. 😄 She repeated A1 Spanish twice before she felt ready to move on to A2. She even got an E on an oral Spanish exam at university. But she kept going, kept learning, and today she uses that experience to remind her students that struggling with a language is completely normal.🤗

Maybe that’s why Tonje creates such a warm and comfortable atmosphere in her classes. She knows how much courage it can take to speak when you’re not confident yet, and she loves seeing the moment when a quiet student finally dares to join the conversation. 💙

And when Tonje isn’t travelling, she might actually be teaching while travelling. ✈️ With 127 countries across six continents already on her list, her online classroom has popped up in quite a few corners of the world. 🌎💻 South America holds a special place in her heart, so you never quite know where your next lesson with Tonje might be coming from.

Back home, she’s part of a weekly quiz team, loves her book club, and makes ceramics. Her quiz team keeps showing up every week despite never actually winning. Persistence seems to be a theme here. 😄💪

From learning Spanish to teaching Norwegian from different parts of the world, Tonje is a pretty good reminder that curiosity and not giving up can take you far. 💙

☀️ Meet Mari!

From high-end kitchens to Norwegian classrooms, Mari has taken a slightly unusual road to teaching. 😄

Before becoming a language teacher, she trained as a chef and spent her early twenties working in high-end restaurants. Today, instead of breaking down complicated recipes, she breaks down complicated Norwegian grammar and turns it into something that actually makes sense. 🇳🇴

Having called five different countries home, Mari knows what it feels like to learn languages, adapt to new places, and build a life somewhere new. She speaks four languages herself and believes that learning a language is about connection, not perfection. 💙

When she’s not teaching, Mari is probably somewhere near the ocean, surfing, skating, reading a good book, practising yoga and meditation, hunting down a cute café, eating something delicious, or planning her next adventure. 🌊☀️

She loves psychology, neuroscience, personal growth, and the kind of deep conversations that accidentally last for hours.

Today, Norway mourns the loss of King Harald V.

King Harald passed away peacefully at Rikshospitalet at 6:35 this morning, at the age of 89. He ascended the throne in 1991 and remained a deeply respected and beloved figure throughout his 35-year reign.

In recent days, as his condition worsened, thousands of people gathered outside the Royal Palace and at other places across Norway. They brought flowers, left messages of support and came together to show how much the King meant to them.

King Harald will be remembered for his warmth, wisdom and ability to bring people together. His famous words from 2016 reflected a Norway built on inclusion, trust and respect for our differences:

“Norway is you. Norway is us.”

These words feel especially meaningful today. His greatest hope was that we would continue to care for one another and remember that, despite our differences, we are one people.

Our deepest condolences go to the Royal Family and everyone mourning this great loss.

Thank you for everything, King Harald.
