Had the chance to meet our four mitra interns presently at Rome - Maret and John at Deutsches Historisches Institut in Rom and Evelyn and Magnus at Det Norske Institutt i Roma for a pleasant exchange on internship projects. Un vero piacere. Grazie al dnir!

VELKOMMEN TIL MITRA STUDENTENE!

Evelyn og Magnus er MA-studenter på UiOs "Modern International and Transnational History" (MITRA) og har valgt å ta en praktikantperiode ved Det norske institutt i Roma samtidig som de jobber med egne forskningsprosjekter. Med praktikantoppholdet vil de bli kjent med alle sider ved driften av en forsknings- og utdanningsinstitusjon i en internasjonal kontekst i Roma, med spesielt fokus på Instituttets forskningsbibliotek og fotoarkiv.

Magnus (24) er fra Fredrikstad og har studert historie i Storbritannia i tillegg til ved UiO. Han er spesielt interessert i Sør-Kina havet, grensetvister i forhold til øysamfunn der, maktpolitikk og internasjonal lovgivning. Han valgte å ta sin praksisperiode i Roma på grunn av byens lange transnasjonale og internasjonale historie og forsto tidlig at Det norske institutt er et perfekt utgangspunkt for å bli kjent med historien til den evige stad.

Evelyn (32) ble født i Rio de Janeiro men vokste opp i Santa Catarina hvor hun også studerte historie, før hun dro på utveksling til Argentina og senere flyttet til Norge. Hennes store forskningsinteresse er restituering av kulturgjenstander fra europeiske museer til deres opprinnelsesland. Hun ønsker å kombinere historisk metode med antropologi og museologi. Ulovlig handel med kulturgjenstander som forskningstema var en av årsakene til at Evelyn valgte Instituttet som praksissted.

Er verden i ferd med å bli mindre eller mer fragmentert? MITRA programmet ser på internasjonale og transnasjonale prosesser, institusjoner og endringer fra ulike standpunkt for å få en bedre forståelse av verden i dag. De fleste MITRA studentene har praktikantopphold og besøker arkiver i utlandet.

A fascinating discussion on the history of neoliberalism - from intellectual origins to present debates - yesterday in our third MITRA master class with Quinn Slobodian (Wellesley College). We will continue with Glenda Sluga on Internationalism in November.

Great Kick-off of our series of 5 master classes in international and transnational history in the fall 2020 at the MITRA-program at IAKH Universitetet i Oslo (UiO) with the amazing Heidi Tworek.

We gained fascinating insights on "Writing the history of global pandemics in times of Covid-19". Lively discussion, good advice on the work with historical archives during the current crisis and the privilege of discussing two fresh results of Heidi's work:

1. An upcoming special issue of the on ’Pandemics that Changed the World. Historical Reflections on COVID-19’ and

Congratulations to MITRA alumnus Mathias Hatleskog Tjønn! Yesterday Mathias was awarded with The Fritt Ord Foundations Scholarship for his MITRA master's thesis "The Persistence of Colonialism. A Century of Italo-Libyan Relationships and Their Influence on the Current European Migration Regime in the Mediterranean (1911–2017)". The award was presented by The Norwegian Historical Association.

PhD and Postdoc Positions - Department of Archaeology, Conservation and History CREATIVE IPR is hiring a PhD and Postdoctoral Researcher to work on the history of intellectual property rights. 

The MITRA-Filmclub starts again. This time in cooperation and first session organized by the MITRA-Students. First screening is Grave of the Fireflies (1988) this Friday, 11.10. at Eilert-Sunds-Hus auditorium 4, at 17.00.

The frist group of MITRA-students have just handed in their master’s thesis, and we would like to gratulate them! But there are even bigger things to celebrate! Yesterday our students and teachers met at Oslo City hall to be part of Brandon & Lena’s Wedding ceremony, the world’s very first MITRA marriage! We wish Brandon & Lena all the best!
