How do we turn the Méndez Principles into day-to-day practice across different legal systems and policing cultures? 🌏

Earlier this month, 45 researchers, trainers, and practitioners from 14 countries gathered in Bodø, Norway for the workshop "From Research to Practice: Implementing Investigative Interviewing Globally", hosted by the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, the ImpleMéndez COST Action, and the Norwegian Police University College.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences, identify shared challenges, and explore practical strategies for implementing investigative interviewing based on human rights and evidence-based practices. From Brazil and Indonesia to Ukraine and the UK, participants shared lessons learned from reform efforts in their respective countries, contributing to the development of a forthcoming implementation guide that will support the global application of the Méndez Principles.

We’re proud to share that a new project under the Nansen EDU programme has been awarded funding to strengthen Norwegian–Ukrainian cooperation in higher education! 🙌

Together with strong partners — JustGroup, National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and King Danylo University — the NCHR will contribute to building capacity for human rights-based criminal justice education in Ukraine.

Against the backdrop of the significant challenges facing Ukraine’s legal system and higher education sector, this three-year partnership will focus on advancing practice-oriented criminal justice education, reinforcing teaching capacity, and deepening cooperation between academic institutions and practitioners. The initiative is designed to support the development of legal professionals with the skills required to carry out fair, evidence-based investigations in line with human rights standards.

This project is a strong example of how international collaboration, education, and applied learning can create lasting impact — both now and in the future. 🤝
