🔹PhD course🔹
➡️MULTILEVEL AND LONGITUDINAL MODELING
🗓️June 8- June 11
📍Det utdanningsvitenskapelige fakultet (UiO), Helga Engs Building, Room 231
💻Application deadline: May 15
Brief Course Description
===================
The short course introduces models for multilevel or clustered data,
such as cross-sectional data with students nested in schools, or
longitudinal data with repeated measures/panel waves nested in subjects.
Part 1 of the course covers linear multilevel models for continuous
responses, including random-intercept, random-coefficient, and
three-level models. (Restricted) maximum likelihood estimation of
model parameters and empirical Bayes prediction of random effects are introduced. Part 2 focuses on longitudinal data analysis,
starting with application of random-coefficient models for growth,
contrasting this approach with marginal modeling and giving a brief overview of methods from panel data econometrics. Part 3 introduces multilevel logistic regression for binary responses.
The course focuses on understanding statistical modeling and
not on the use of statistical software. It does not require complex
mathematics but can be conceptually demanding.

Professors Sophia Rabe-Hesketh (University of California, Berkeley)
and Anders Skrondal (CEMO/CREATE, University of Oslo & Norwegian Institute of Public Health) have written several books and many papers on these topics. They have taught courses on multilevel and longitudinal modeling at the University of California, Berkeley and the London School of Economics and many short courses worldwide.

Academic resilience, which describes how disadvantaged students excel in schools, has gained attention for its potential to narrow achievement gaps and reduce educational inequalities. While malleable protective factors in the learning environment have been extensively studied, institutional factors like school spending have received less attention.
This study utilizes Norwegian register data to examine how the amount and allocation of school spending may influence academic resilience through regression analyses.
Our very own José Manuel Arencibia Alemán is one of the researchers behind the study!👏👏👏
