ABOUT ME:

My name is Marta María. I am a native Spanish speaker and I have over 10 years of experience teaching Spanish as a second language to adults of many different nationalities and on all levels. I love teaching, explaining, playing, and seeing motivated students and results. Apart from the teaching itself and from class preparation, I´m engaged in constant research on different fields of linguistics: psycholinguistics, pragmatic and traditional grammar. I also spend much of my work time creating interesting, fun and clarifying materials for my classes. I am a self motivated learner and I am passionate and active within the fields of my interest; literature, humanities, social sciences, music, theatre and cinema. In my free time I write essays, reviews, and compose music. I enjoy the most when I can share culture with people and create meaning together. ABOUT THE COURSES:

Highly personalized courses allow follow up of each student and much more interaction of each student with the others and with me during the classes. The idea is to ensure as much practice as possible during the sessions. Cultural insight is fun. We use it to approach language itself and we exploit our innate capacity to understand and transmit meaning, but at the same time we aid ourselves with short grammar pills and lifesavers. Fun classes + Structured method = Results. PRACTICALITIES:

El cafecito:
Before a student decides whether they want to take a course with me, we meet to have a coffee :-) This the easiest, nicest and most effective way to ask and answer questions, and for me to assess the level of my students as well as start to spot their specific needs. Write a message to the inbox here if you want to have "un cafecito". Where? Group classes are held in Grünerløkka by Birkelunden Park. Tutoring (one to one) can be held at the student`s home/office, or in Grünerløkka by Birkelunden Park. How often? For group classes: I´m actually holding courses of one session per week, or courses of two sessions per week. For tutoring (one to one): we agree with the student how many sessions per week he/she wants to have. How long? Sessions are made up of two academic classes (45 minutes each). This means that each session lasts 1.5 hours. How much? You will find the price per student in the description of each course. Welcome to my newly created page :-) I will keep adding information and updating you about courses as I learn how to administrate it. By now, I can explain about my courses, my methodology and, of course, about me:

The courses I hold are either one to one (tutoring), or groups of absolute max. 6 students. This way I can tailor the classes adapt them to my students` needs and interests and really follow up on each of them. This also guaranties that each student gets to interact and participate much more in every class.

The classes are planned to be entertaining and fun but at the same time very structured: the idea is that the student forgets as much as possible about the fact that they`re studying, but that the teacher knows where they`re guiding them. At the end of every activity and in nearly every class, there will be a grammar focus that will help the student master the communicative function they have worked on.

The courses take place in Grünerløkka very close to trams 11, 12, 13 and bus 30. We have here everything that we need: A big table, a whiteboard, internet, audio speakers, printer, lots of natural light AND coffee or tea :-)

With individual students we agree on the days and hours when we will hold our courses (in these cases I can also go to the studets`office or home under agreement). With groups I`ll be posting as events the courses I´m offering on different levels. As we are few people we can also agree on days and hours.

I am a Colombian language devotee with over 10 years of experience as a full time language teacher and translator. First, as a part time jobb in Colombia. Later, as full time job in Scandinavia. The last 6 years a full time job in Spain. I have a natural interest for the fields that are related to language or communication: language acquisition, linguistics, pedagogics, grammar, literature, writing, theater and music. I enjoy the contact with people and to be a facilitator for them to accomplish to communicate themselves in a new language. A language is a whole unique world view and it is fascinating to introduce people to new worlds and a completely different way of viewing things.
