The Easter holidays begin this week in Norway 🐰🥚 Holidays traditionally start on Thursday (Maundy Thursday) and continue until Monday (2nd day of Easter). Some families took extra days off (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) and have already started to rest 🌼😎

Norwegians are Lutherans, but they rarely go to church and rarely celebrate church holidays. Easter for Norwegians is a chance to relax and get away from the city 🚗🚂✈️

There are three main types of Easter holidays in modern Norway:

⛰ The mountains. Holidays in the mountains, in cabin (hytte), alpine skiing and cross-country skiing. ⛷

🏖 South (Syden) - this is how Southern Europe is called in Norway. The slogan of this holiday is “Easter without skis” (Påskeferie uten ski) 🏄

🏢 Bypåske - "urban Easter" - is about those Norwegians who stayed in the cities for the whole Easter holidays 🧘

Eggs, chickens and daffodils are symbols of Easter in Norway. Eggs (Påskeegg) 🥚 represent the start of a new life. Chickens 🐥 are a sign of abundance. Daffodils (påskeliljer - Easter lilies) 🌞 were chosen as the celebratory flower because of their flowering time and shade.

Norway is perhaps the only country where Easter is associated with reading detective stories and watching crime films 🕵️‍♀️🚓 The tradition was born by accident in the 20s of the 20th century. The headline "Train Robbery" appeared in the paper during Easter, and people began to discuss the event very actively. Actually, it was an advertisement for a new crime novel.
