I don’t think I’ve ever felt Prouder. 2 years ago was a footballer, was a 16mins 5k runner and .harper was hustling away on his own in Scotland looking for opportunities to show his talent. Now the lads are all selected for the GB European championships Team and all have Full scholarships to the US.
I’m telling you kids, dream big, work hard and you never know what will happen!
Well done boys 🇬🇧 👏

Why its important and how to talk to your parent(s) about a US scholarship.
Your parent(s) will be a huge part of this process, from gaining their blessing to supporting you emotionally and financially. Many athletes I see who have less time to prepare despite exploring this for years on their own are normally the ones who leave it to the last minute to get their parents involved. No matter how independent you are, they are a key part of this journey.
1. Start by sitting down with your parents and explain why you want to look into this.
Parents will want to help you achieve your aims academically and athletically and will explore different pathways on how you can achieve them. Have an open chat on what you want to do and how this route may help to achieve those targets. They will want you to be the best version of yourself.
2. Get the facts, If your parents know what this involves you can make a better collective decision as a family.
Your parents need to know everything but especially the finances, well-fare and set up so they know you are well looked after and also can support you. Get the relevant info and answer the questions they need answered. The biggest fear from your parents with this is the fear of the unknown. Cover all areas and understand the facts together.
3. Involve them in the process.
If you then commit to the recruitment process, let them speak to Coaches and give them the breakdown of the opportunities. Use them as a springboard to discuss what is best and get their opinion.
Why is it important they are involved? They will be your biggest supporters and providers. Whilst a huge amount of independence is a part of this experience and it is always your decision, emotionally and financially you need your parents there from day 1. Despite being on a full ride, If I didn’t have my Dad looking after me with flights, paperwork and helping me with challenges I faced I couldn’t of done this so get them involved as early as you can and your experience will be much better. If you do that it’s not just an amazing opportunity for you but for them as well.

What is a JUCO?
Juniors colleges are 2 year schools where you can complete vocational degrees. Where they are super handy for us as internationals is if you don’t achieve eligibility (either with the core class requirements or the GPA) you can look to a junior college and then transfer into the NCAA after 2 years to complete your full undergrad.
Is it worth doing?
If you aren’t eligible for the NCAA, it’s still a good pathway. It allows you to get a degree in a university you may not qualify for at home. It also gives you two years to improve academically and athletically to maybe qualify for a much better program. It’s not as good as the NCAA of course or a full university, but it’s a great stepping stone to get to where you want to be and I think it’s worth viewing as that if it’s your only option.
How are the scholarships?
Often they are cheaper schools, but not as well funded. However did get a full scholarship for this summer. In general it ain’t too bad!
