A new study suggests that roughly 22% of the element xenon found in Earth's atmosphere may have come from comets. The isotopic signature of this cometary xenon closely mirrors the signature of the xenon on Earth derived from a previously unknown source.

A new study suggests that about 20 percent of the noble gas xenon in Earth's atmosphere was delivered by comets long ago. And these icy wanderers likely brought lots of other stuff to our planet as well, researchers said.
