Christian Chat Christian Chat Christian Chat is a christian student organization at the University of Agder, Kristiansand, Norway.

It started out as a small group of young christians meeting together at campus talking about different subjects from the society, relating them to the Bible. This was in 2002

Since then it has grown, and in 2009 it officially became a student organization.

John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you: my peace I give you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid".

The promise of peace Jesus gave before his resurrection reverberates with renewed relevance even for us today. "My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives."

There is nothing wrong with efforts to make peace around the world, but despite men's best intentions, peace seems to be temporal and fleeting. It seems like peace is easily swept away by rage, revenge, misunderstandings, insults and violence.

But the peace Jesus offers is different. It is not temporal or fleeting, but it is power and a force within us that withstands all storms, all chaos, all violence and all other efforts to topple it. It is the peace in the midst of the storm, the firm conviction that whether I live or die I belong to the Lord. It is the peace that surpasses all understanding. How can I experience this peace you may say? Paul says it very well in Ephesians: "He is our peace..." Let your mind and your heart be filled with Jesus, and the peace will flow from Him like a river.

“Peace be with you”.

Jesus’ words to the terrified disciples as he suddenly appeared among them after his resurrection were more than a casual greeting like “what’s up” or “how’s it going”.

Jesus expressed a traditional Hebrew blessing or prayer that people would share when they met. “Peace be with you”. “Shalom Aleichem”. It is a deep and rich blessing implying “I offer you my peace” and “I pray that peace will be with you”. Not just peace as the absence of struggle, strife or problems, but peace in the sense of being “whole” and “complete”.

It is wonderful when a fellow man or women greets you with this blessing “peace be with you”. But how much more wonderful is it for the resurrected Lord if heaven and earth to bless us this same way! “May you be whole, may you be complete, may you have a peace that surpasses all understanding”.

The common way to respond to the greeting was to reverse it. “With you be peace” (Aleichem Shalom). What is your response to Jesus today? As Jesus extends his peace to you I would encourage you to extend your peace back to him in as a result there is no enmity between you and God, only wholeness, love and, yes, peace.

Matthew 5:16 encourages us with these words:

"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Some times we may read this verse and think there is a direct connection between "our good deeds" and people around us responding by "glorifying our Father in heaven". So if you live a holy life pleasing to God you should expect people around you to start glorifying your Father in heaven. But is this how this verse is meant to be understood? What if people's response when you try to live a holy and honorable life is rather lukewarm and perhaps even hostile? Does this mean that you have failed to do properly "good deeds", since people are not responding by glorifying your Father in heaven?

I would propose that we are not to understand this verse in the way I described above. I would rather claim that it is our "good deeds" that "glorify our Father in heaven", not necessarily the response of the people around us. Regardless or what people say or think, when we live a holy life that is pleasing to God, this is what brings glory to our Father in heaven.

Hello everyone! Thanks for being part of the Christian Chat facebook group.

I would like to encourage you today with Philippians 4:8:
"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."

Modern science has shown us how negative thought patterns can create strong neural pathways in our brains that can be very difficult to get out of. We keep falling into the same destructive and negative thought patterns over and over again. It can be thought patterns where you think badly about yourself. Or thought patterns that lead you into bad decisions and situations.

But we don't have to be a slave to bad thought patterns! With the help of God's spirit we can start creating positive and fruitful thought patterns! We can start thinking about "whatever is true"! Filling our minds with God's truth. The truth that God loves us! That we are created in the image of God! That God certainly does have a beautiful plan for our lives! If we continue filling our minds with these thoughts, our neutral pathways in our brains will be changed! And the negative thought patterns will start diminishing.

But not only will our thought patterns be changed for the better. We will also position ourselves in the will of God, where God can guide our steps and lead us on his ways.

Today is Good Friday. The day we remember how Jesus paid the ultimate price to purchase our salvation with his own blood. The blood of Jesus has not lost its power, but is still able to cleanse you from all sin! May Jesus bless you with his presence today!
