Congratulations to our First Lego League team KIS White for qualifying for the Scandinavian Innovation Award! 🥳

🤩 Åtte lag er klare for Scandinavian Innovation Award! 🤩
Gjennom finalene har en rekke lag blitt nominert for sine innovative ideer. Juryen har nå gått grundig gjennom rapportene fra alle de nominerte lagene, og resultatet er klart: Åtte lag er invitert til Scandinavian Innovation Award 2026, som arrangeres 2. februar hos Tekna i Oslo.

Grade 6 visited Oslo’s National Museum as part of their Unit of Inquiry about art. 🎨

The class took part in a guided tour of selected artworks, including paintings by Johan Christian Dahl and Edvard Munch. They were especially excited to see The Scream by Munch. 🤩

Afterwards, they had time to explore the museum and look more closely at artworks that particularly stood out to them. 💖

Grade 6 just finished their vase/bottle chalk drawings in the Art Unit! 🎨

Grade 2 had another library session with a read alound from "The Shoemaker and the Elves" – example of a fairytale. 🧝‍♀️

After a short discussion that a fairytale is a short story with a moral or message at the end, the students were asked to share the message they got from the story! 💡

They then shared their thoughts about what things they can do to help others at school or at home. 🥰

During a recent Library session, Grade 2 worked on understanding the narrative arc or "the hill" of a book along with Ms. Claudia, the Librarian.

The students then read to each other and tried to plot the beginning, middle and end of the story they read!

Grade 3 were visited by a mechanical engineer from USN who spent the day showing the class how engineers use maths, science, triangles, balance, and careful design thinking to solve real problems!

He shared examples from his work designing cars and bridges, and the students loved hearing how engineers test ideas using models, materials, and even computer software.

Then the students designed their own bridge structures from spaghetti and glue, using ideas from the presentation to guide their choices. The creativity was fantastic!

Grade 1 made feelings monsters to go with their "see something, say something" lesson. 👻

In class they talked about how we can say something to try and help out when we notice that our friends are having big feelings. 💖

Grade 2 have been working on the unit "Who we are" recently and part of this unit inquires in to body systems and how they work. 🧠

By investigating models of the human body, the students looked at different internal organs and wondered about the various body systems and how they function! 🫀

They had some interesting questions and chose some to focus on like "why do we have a skull?" and used these questions to practice research skills by trying to find answers in different sources! 👏

As part of the cultural events brought to us by Den Kulturelle Skolesekken (DKS), the MYPA students got a chance to learn about Rotoscoping! 👩‍🎨

Rotoscoping means animating/drawing on top of live action frames. One of the most recognizable example of this technique in popular culture is the legendary music video for Norwegian band a-ha's music video "Take on me" as verified by the video artists! 🎶

Grade 2 went to the park by the river during Outdoor Education! 🌳

While there, they brainstormed some healthy activities they might do or choices they might make during this session. The next day, they reviewed their list, checked off the things they did and added more to the list. 🤩

We had a great time in the park! 🥰

At KIS we have a strong focus on traffic safety. It's therefore brilliant when we can get a visit from a big truck and a truck driver to show us how to travel safely in traffic! 🚛

Grade 1-3 got the opportunity to see for themselves what truck drivers can and can't see when they are operating their big trucks last Friday when NLF (Norges Lastebileier-forbund) came to visit! They talked about important road signs, how to act around larger vehicles and how they can make sure the driver has spotted you. 😃

On Saturday, 25 teams competed in the First Lego League Challenge Competition in Oslo! We are proud to share that KIS was very well represented! 🤩

Two teams from the school, KIS Blue and KIS White, participated and we are proud to share the following results:
💙 KIS Blue – Nominated for the Technology Prize (Teknologiprisen) and placed 12th in the robot competition.
🤍KIS White – Received 2nd Place Project Prize (Prosjektprisen) and placed 17th in the robot competition.

KIS White also received a nomination for the Scandinavian Innovation Award (SIA). FIRST Scandinavia organizes the Scandinavian Innovation Award (SIA) to highlight the strong solutions developed by this year’s Lego League teams. To move forward in the SIA process, the team must submit their project description which a jury will then evaluate before deciding which teams will be invited to the Scandinavian Innovation Award event! 👏👏

Congratulations to all participating teams, and a heartfelt thank you to the students, parents, and teachers who contributed to this achievement. We are incredibly proud of you! 🥳
