🇳🇴❤️ Happy 17.mai from GIS! ❤️🇳🇴
Today, our students, staff, and families proudly joined the parade through Gjøvik to celebrate Norway’s Constitution Day - a day filled with community spirit, music, flags, smiles… and eventually, a lot of rain! ☔
Despite the sudden downpour, the celebrations continued with true GIS teamwork and resilience. Staff, students, and families quickly came together to rescue decorations, equipment, cakes, and celebration items before the weather could do too much damage. A real community effort in action. 👏
Rain or shine, days like today remind us what makes GIS special: togetherness, kindness, and the joy of celebrating as one international community.

❤️🇳🇴 Small Actions; Big Impact 🇳🇴❤️
We are incredibly proud of our Grade 6 students.
Recently, they wrote a letter to the municipality regarding our school’s placement in the 17th of May parade. For many years, GIS has been placed at the very end of the parade and outside the same rotation system as other schools. The students felt this was unfair and decided their voices deserved to be heard.
In their letter, they shared thoughtful reflections about inclusion, fairness, and belonging - expressing their wish to feel like a visible and valued part of the wider community.
Their voices were heard, and this year our school received a better place in the parade. 👏
For us, this is about far more than where we walk. It is about students learning that respectful dialogue can create change, and that young people have the power to shape the communities around them.
At Gjøvikregionen International School, we want our students to guide, inspire, and help shape a more harmonious world, and this was a beautiful example of exactly that.

🤖✨ Small steps, big ideas ✨🤖

Our *Mess Club* has been a space full of challenges, creativity, innovation, and teamwork. 🚀

Through robotics, students are not simply following instructions or mechanizing processes; they are learning to think, question, create, and solve problems together. Every challenge has been an opportunity to explore new ideas and take the first steps toward great achievements. ⚙️💡

Most importantly, this experience has truly reflected the value of *Guiding, Inspiring, and Shaping* - supporting students as they grow in confidence, curiosity, and collaboration while having so much fun along the way. 🌟

And this is only the beginning! 🔧🤖

🇩🇪 Tuesday Travels: Berlin Edition
Our Grade 10 students arrived, yesterday, in Berlin, and what better landmark to pose beneath than the iconic Fernsehturm!
From history and culture to new perspectives and shared experiences, this trip is all about learning beyond the classroom. We’re excited to see what the rest of the week has in store for our MYP explorers. 🌍✨

🌍 Wednesday Wisdom: Learning + Action = Impact
Yesterday, Grade 6 students put their mathematical inquiry skills to work - using ratios and scaling to prepare items for their issue-themed bake sales. 📏🍪
Today, that learning turned into action, with Bake Sale 1 of 4 raising almost 800 NOK toward our PYP Exhibition goals! 🎉
A special shoutout to:
👏 Emma and Ingema for spending extra time helping with clean-up; Anna and Sofie for bringing in additional home-baked items
👏 Eirik for staying after school to sell the final items

⚽☀️ Monday Motivation: Community connections that go beyond the classroom.
For the past few months, Ben - an Irish footballer with Gjøvik-Lyn - has been sharing his time with our school community, bringing plenty of Irish wit, humour, and positive energy to staff and students alike. Safe to say, he’s quickly become one of the ‘cool adults’ around campus! 😄
As part of a wider effort to strengthen community connections across the town, Ben generously arranged free tickets for staff and students to attend today’s match. With a 4:15pm kick-off and glorious sunshine, it was the perfect opportunity for our students to show their support.
And in a moment that felt almost scripted… Ben scored the match-winning goal in a 1–0 victory - his first of the season - part of a performance that earned him the man of the match award! 🎯⚽ At full-time, he was greeted with scenes that could only be described as Beatlemania-esque, surrounded by cheering students and supporters.
Here’s to more moments where school, sport, and community come together… because learning and belonging don’t stop at the school gates.

💧🌍 Thankful Thursday: Thankful for inquiry that leads to action.
Today, we’re feeling especially thankful for the PYP Exhibition (PYPX) and the meaningful opportunities it gives students to turn curiosity into real-world impact.
Ronith has been exploring water pollution - investigating its causes and effects, how our understanding and treatment of Earth’s water has changed over time, and how individuals and communities can take responsibility for protecting this vital resource.
During the Easter holidays, he, along with his family, visited Mjøsa to collect discarded rubbish, which he is now sorting and transforming into artwork for his PYPX project - turning pollution into a powerful message about awareness and responsibility. ♻️🎨
His learning has also connected with our wider community, as he supported Grades 3 & 4 in preparing for their Earth Day assembly, showing how individual inquiry can contribute to collective action.
We’re thankful for students who take initiative, connect their learning to the world around them, and remind us that small actions can lead to meaningful change.

🌍✨ Wednesday Wisdom: Small actions, when shared, create powerful change.
Today, our Grade 3 & 4 students proudly led our Earth Day assembly, guiding the school through thoughtful discussions about current environmental challenges and the ways each of us can take responsibility as individuals.
Through engaging activities and meaningful reflection, students explored this year’s theme - Our Power; Our Planet - reminding us that every action, no matter how small, contributes to a healthier world. Their leadership showed that when young people raise their voices, inspire others, and take action, real change begins. 🌱

📚✨ Wednesday Wisdom: Reading brings us together.
Today’s PYP Book Week assembly was a wonderful example of collaboration across the school, led by our Grade 5 and Grade 9 students. Through a range of creative, book-inspired activities - including a fun, quidditch-inspired PSPE challenge - our younger learners were invited to experience stories in active, engaging ways. 🧹📖
It was inspiring to see older students take the lead, guiding, supporting, and sharing their love of reading with the PYP. A powerful reminder that learning is strongest when it’s shared, and that stories have the ability to connect us all. ✨

📖✨ Tuesday Tales in Pyjamas!
As part of our much-loved Book Week tradition, Pyjama Day brought cosy comfort and plenty of smiles to our PYP classrooms. Dressed in their favourite pyjamas and joined by cuddly bedtime companions, students settled in for a special DEAR - Drop Everything And Read - time. 🧸📚
With soft toys by their side and books in hand, the classrooms were filled with quiet focus, imagination, and the simple joy of getting lost in a good story. It’s a wonderful reminder that reading and comfort go hand in hand - and that sometimes the best adventures happen in pyjamas!

📚 Friday Feels: Every day is Book Day for some…
While the playground buzzes with energy, you’ll always find a few students lost in a different kind of adventure. For this Grade 8 reader, every spare moment is a chance to turn a page, dive into a story, and explore new worlds - no matter what’s happening around them.
