PhD-work from our Shima Pilewar might result in bases on a moon far far away (link to paper in the article) 👩🚀🚀🌖💫
Astronaut urine for building a Moon base From human waste to superplasticiser, astronaut urine could become a useful resource for making a robust type of concrete on the Moon.

Last month, June 12th 2018 our colleague Ania Szczotok-Piechaczek got her PhD with a Cum Laude distinction by defending her dissertation entitled "Development of Microcapsules with Thermal Energy Storage (TES) Capability for Concrete Applications". The PhD Thesis was performed under supervision of prof. Anna-Lena Kjøniksen from Østfold University College and prof. Juan Francisco Rodriguez from University of Castilla La Mancha in Spain in the framework of a research project “Micro-encapsulated phase change materials in concrete” funded by the Research Council of Norway.

This week Matthew Lynch was visiting the Saigon Innovation Hub to co-teach with one of Silicon Valleys leading teachers in and Testing, Megan Goering. We had a blast, and a huge thanks to Tom Howard of HackerFleet who helped set it up.

Our own Matthew Lynch reports from Canada:
One of the great things about doing a PhD is that you get exposed to interesting areas which might be outside your normal field of expertise, such as hearing world famous architect Peter Busby talk about how we can design buildings that repair the environment in which we live.
Also it has been great to meet engineering students at University of British Columbia, who have been building their own human powered submarines!
