Today I finally had the opportunity to install and test-run my Taylor 030 paraffin stove.

It has been quite a journey getting everything fitted correctly. A lot of time has gone into adapting, measuring, and making sure the installation is safe and properly done. Today I was able to light the burners and test the system for the first time.

The stove is working, and everything is tight and leak-free, which is a great milestone. I was not completely satisfied with the flame pattern during the first test, but I was also running with slightly lower pressure than the manufacturer recommends. I expect that adjustments to the pressure and final tuning will improve the performance.

The next step is to remove the stove again and complete the rear section of the installation with proper non-combustible panels before the final fitting.

It is always satisfying to see an old piece of equipment like the Taylor 030 come back to life. This is another important step in restoring Pagan into the reliable offshore cruising boat I want her to become.

I wasn’t completely satisfied with my first attempt at welding shut the old openings where the water and diesel lines used to pass through. Even though the welds are watertight and located in a non-critical area, I’m going to grind them back and weld them again until I’m happy with the result.

I also have a couple of small holes in the cockpit that need to be repaired. I see this as part of preparing myself for future welding projects on Pagan (doghouse). Although I’ve done quite a bit of welding in the past and even hold a TIG welding certificate, it’s been several years since I last welded, and skills like these definitely benefit from practice.

While im closing in on the outside work, is still have a little welding work left on deck, and im beginning to get an hold of it.

Beside this im hoping to get the stove up and running and also the installation of refleks diesel heather is getting closet.

Had one hell of a job taking out the Starter… It was like welded to the engine… a few hours of wrestling and it came out….luckily I found a brand new one at a reasonable price 😍

We were lucky enough to get a whole week without rain, and thanks to that, Pagans is finally finished with its rust treatment. Here’s hoping it will stay rust-free for years to come.

How on earth did I end up with a steel boat?😃

To be honest, I was expecting to find a lot worse. So far, I haven’t found any holes in the deck. Considering she’s 30 years old and hasn’t had much maintenance over the last 10 years, she’s actually holding up pretty well.

There are a few welding repairs to do where the old diesel and water filler pipes used to be, and I found a small issue with the steel under one of the hatches. Other than that, it’s looking surprisingly solid.

A few more nice weather days ahead and the job should come to an end.

All rust on Pagan’s deck will be treated and repainted with a new two-component coating system, including a two-component primer and topcoat.

Pagan finally got out for a little fresh air today after sitting still for a whole year. I topped off the diesel tank, and honestly that might be the only thing she gets this summer. Unfortunately, other projects have taken priority, but I haven’t given up on her. A lot of work has already been done, and there’s still so much that’s great about this boat — she’s more than capable of taking someone wherever they want to go.
