CircTex provided a proof-of-concept for fully recyclable workwear within the NWE region by developing technologies for large-scale processing of PET workwear, which was validated and demonstrated in a closed chain pilot. The material and yarns were produced by means of a thermomechanical recycling p...

Welcome to the CIRCTEX Closing event
June 5th from 14-16h | 931 Congress Centre | 's-Hertogenbosch (NL)

For three and a half years, six companies and three expert organisations from the Netherlands, the UK, Belgium, France, and Spain have been working on the development of closed-loop workwear solutions. Their focus was on protective, high-visibility workwear for public (road) workers.

Many challenges had to be overcome in the design, production, use and recycling phases. From the outset, the disassembly of used garments into recyclable and non-recyclable parts was a key element, using the innovative Wear2Go technology. This technology consists of an electromagnetically breakable thread and a tunnel disassembler to separate the various parts, in particular the visibility stripes and zips that are not PES recyclable. On the other hand, a lot of effort has been put into the development of PES recycling compatible waterproof tapes and membranes, transfers for logos and on zips and buttons. To close the loop on PES textile recycling, both mechanical and chemical recycling have been explored.

The final circular workwear items will be presented, as well as the business model for closed-loop cooperation. The latter will be made available to any company that commits to participate in or even organise a circular closed-loop cooperation on a specific product (group) in any textile market, from consumer fashion, corporate and work wear, sports/outdoor fashion, and leisure wear to interior and technical textiles.

The importance of bio-based and biodegradable materials is still growing in the European textile and plastic converting industries. Each year, new applications are being developed imposing increasingly stringent demands on mechanical properties, durability and additional functionalities, such as tailored biodegradation.

The 4th International Conference on Bio-based and Biodegradable Textiles and Plastics will identify the main changes and trends in the fields of bio-based and biodegradable textiles and plastics, and provide a comprehensive update of all aspects for commercial applications.

CircTex partner Centexbel is one of the seventeen partners of the European project “Plastics Recycling from and for Home Appliances, Toys, and Textile - PRecycling”, funded by the EU horizon research and innovation program. Its objective is to produce high-quality recyclates from plastic waste streams by developing an easy-to-use methodology for sorting, sampling, tracing, recycling techniques, and analysis procedures of both plastic waste streams and recyclates.
