It was a warm welcome home to alum Katie Kelley ‘05 and her father Tom, who taught Chemistry at ASH for 24 years. While Tom has been back to visit a few times since retiring in 2013, Katie had not been back to visit since she graduated.

It was a heartwarming walk down memory lane for them both!

In Loving Memory of Kellie Gibbs

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Kellie Gibbs. She passed away on May 4, 2026 after a battle with cancer. Kellie served the school in several roles over her twenty-five years at ASH, most notably in the Middle School, High School, and Student Support offices.

Kellie loved supporting students at ASH, and she was an active and valued member of the works council for many years, supporting her colleagues.

Kellie had a creative heart – she was a weaver and a quilter, gifting many of her creations to friends and family.

Our hearts are with all of those who knew and loved Kellie, as we move together through this difficult time. Let us honor the joy, learning, and compassion Kellie brought into our lives.

She will be dearly missed.

It warms our hearts when we see our alumni community come together, like in this photo of former High School Principal John Heard, with parent of alumni Elsbeth O'Connor (nee Fritz).

John was principal for many years during the 80’s and 90’s, helping the school through the renown move to Wassenaar in 1990.

It was a happy reunion for the two in sunny Naples, Florida!

Kings Day was here! 🇳🇱 As the nation dressed in orange, let’s take a walk through ASH history and revisit our own royal connections.

Who remembers when former Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands officially opened our campus in 1990, famously ringing the bell in the Sports Hall? Or when her sister, Princess Margriet of the Netherlands, inaugurated our newly built Elementary School wing in 2002?

And perhaps you were among those at one the 20 anniversary THIMUN sessions in The Hague, when former Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands made a guest appearance? For those of you who don't know, ASH was the founding school of what is now the largest and most prestigious High School MUN conference outside of the USA.

Tag your friends and take a stroll down memory lane as we celebrate the vibrant (and unmistakably “oranje”) history of ASH! 🧡

Our heartfelt congratulations to former ASH Teacher Roberta Enschede on receiving the “Legpenning” from the Municipality of Wassenaar.

This distinguished award honors individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the community. It was presented by the Mayor during the Dutch-American Friendship Day celebration; an event Roberta helped initiate decades ago.

At ASH, Roberta was a stand-out teacher who inspired students to find their voice and actively contributed to beloved traditions like Santa Lucia. Her energy and enthusiasm has continued through her work organizing events such as the Thanksgiving Celebration at Leiden Pieterskerk, the Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute, and Dutch-American Friendship Day.

Her lifelong volunteerism has touched many; and her Dutch Knighthood further reflects her commitment to bringing people together. Roberta has become a person that we all know. Let us all join together to celebrate her in this incredible distinction!
