CryoStore PhD students Mahsa Abdi () and Batuhan Kaplan () presented their work at the 20th International Congress on Animal Reproduction (ICAR) in Obihiro, Japan, between 22 and 26 June 2026✨✨

Batuhan writes 'Beyond presenting our own research, the congress was an excellent opportunity to discover the latest developments in animal reproduction across numerous species and specialized research fields. Listening to researchers working on topics closely related to our perspectives, while the discussions around posters and presentations created valuable opportunities to exchange ideas, compare approaches, and learn from one another.'

A big thank you to the organisers Annemieke Rattink, Penelope Banchi and Nicole Coenen at the Centre for Genetic Resources, the Netherlands (CGN), Wageningen University & Research. A big thank you also to Marta de Ruijter-Villani at Utrecht University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and everyone involved in the demonstrations, practicals and laboratory sessions for making this such a wonderful, interesting and educating event!

During one of the last days of the CryoStore Training School, the students gained hands-on training in harvesting viable gametes (s***m and oocytes) from fresh epididymides and female reproductive tissues for conservation and research purposes. ❄️

When in the Netherlands, why not make cheese?🧀
On the first day of the CryoStore Training school, the participants had a social activity where they made their own cheese at the Boerderij Hoekelum farm and they actually got to take home the cheese they made afterwards 😁
