Recently, around 60 BSN alumni reunited in Weybridge, UK. 🥳 Everyone had a great time catching up with old friends, reminiscing about their school days and meeting new people. 💗

On behalf of a former BSN family, we are sharing their story and request for support:

“My family have been part of the BSN community for 50 years. My brother and I spent many happy years at the BSN and made friends for life. I was then fortunate enough to send my own children to the BSN – they even had some of the same teachers as us.

My son Alex is now 22 and two years ago he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Brain cancer kills more children and people under 40 than any other cancer and yet it receives only 1% of funding. So in February 2024 my husband Martin and his courageous friends will undertake a gruelling challenge to ascend the height of Mount Everest on skis in the Alps over 4 days to raise funds for research into brain cancer.

Join us in supporting Martin and his team as they ascend the Swiss Alps, not merely in pursuit of a mountain's peak, but in pursuit of a future where every individual diagnosed with brain cancer, like Alex, has the chance to reach for their dreams rather than fight for their lives.”

Many alumni, both students and staff, will be sad to learn that Joop van der Zwan passed away, at the age of 86, a few days ago. Joop was a concierge at Senior School Voorschoten from 1966 until 2001. He was a wonderful and very popular man and our only remaining link with the opening of the Senior School 57 years ago.

To round off the BSN school year, a fun Golf event has been organised at Zoetermeer Golf Club on Saturday 8 July. ⛳ The event is open to the whole BSN community - parents, grandparents, students, staff and alumni, or anyone who has a connection to our community! You do need to be in possession of a GVB and have a handicap in order to participate.

The tee-off time is at 10:00 so if you wish to practise and warm up before then, there are great facilities for doing so. Driving range ball cards can be purchased at the reception.

We want to make this an annual event and there will be cups and prizes at the end followed by a lunch. The event will be a Stableford competition so all handicaps are welcome. ✉️ Please email [email protected] to confirm who will be attending and whether they will be attending the lunch afterwards.

We look forward to fun for all and enjoying a challenging course with hills (yes, we are talking about the Netherlands!).

We’re still buzzing from the ! ✨ Our first alumni reunion event in over four years, we were delighted to welcome back so many of you (from all over the world!) to the BSN on 1 October. We enjoyed catching up and sharing BSN stories, as well as a wonderful display of the BSN’s history in pictures, produced by BSN Archivist Mike Weston, an art exhibition by GCSE students and beautiful music from student performers.

A big thank you to everyone who was in attendance – we hope to see you again soon. Stay in touch! 👋
