A2 course for elementary-level learners who have completed the A1 level: Monday to Thursday, from 09:15 to 11:30.
B1 course for intermediate-level learners who have completed the A2 level, Monday to Thursday, from 09:15 to 11:30.

PLUSQUAMPERFECTUM

Are you ready for some more advanced grammar?
The plusquamperfectum, also known as 'voltooid verleden tijd', or past perfect in English, is a verb tense we do not often use, but it is important to know in certain situations!

You may use the plusquamperfectum in 3 situations:
1) When talking about two situations in the past, where one has happened earlier in time than the other:
- De vergadering was al afgelopen toen ik op werk aankwam = the meeting had already finished when I arrived to work.
(was afgelopen = plusquamperfectum. Note the usage of imperfectum in the bijzin!)

2) A non-existent past (plusquamperfect + a modal verb)
- Ik had eerder moeten komen = I should have come earlier
(You should have come earlier, then you would not have missed the meeting)

3) Expressing regret about the past
- Was ik maar eerder van huis weggegaan! = If only I had left home earlier!
(If you had, you might have made it!)

GAAN + infinitief

Ik GA fietsen = I'm going to bike.
Hij GAAT slapen = Im going to sleep.

De wedstrijd GAAT beginnen.
Het GAAT straks regenen.

Use GAAN + another verb like this in either of two cases:
1) indicating a change or movement, you are GOING to do what the infinitive implies (biking, sleeping, etc.)
2) indicating that something is going to happen in the future with certainty.
