New friendships, new experiences and plenty of fun! 🙌

Our Grade 7 students enjoyed a fantastic exchange day with Dutch students from Anna van Rijn College who visited ISU. From hands-on workshops to activities on the sports field, the day was full of teamwork, laughter and connection.

A great opportunity to learn from each other and strengthen ties with our local community. 💙 Thank you for joining us today!

Fijne Kongingsdag/Happy King's Day! Did you know that in Dutch primary school across the country King's Day is marked by organising sport and outdoor activities? This is called Koningsspelen and takes place just before the start of the May Break. When you are an international school in the Netherlands, of course you participate!

Such a powerful way to connect!
Students talked about a book in their home language they love. Within minutes of meeting them, you'll understand why bringing your home language into school means so much to our students. It is about being seen, and being valued for being you.

How do you write a story an audience will want to read? Students in Grade 8 and 9 had the opportunity to enrol in a story writing workshop, led by author (and school parent) . The students were concentrating hard, taking notes of all the tips and tricks, and working on their own character & story line.

It was lovely to see our parents enjoying themselves during a fun coffee morning. Moments like these help strengthen the connections that support our students every day. Thank you for being part of the ISU family! Thank you for the lovely picture Koko.

What better way to celebrate International World Happiness Day than by acknowledging friendship. This year's theme for World Happiness Day is "Caring and Sharing', emphasising the value of connection, empathy, and supporting one another to create happier environments.

Congratulations to our chess teams (and their families) who successfully competed in the chess championships for all primary students in Utrecht on Sunday. Our teams performed well during the tournament organised by chess clubs Moira Domtoren, Oud Zuylen Utrecht and Magnus Leidsche Rijn with ISU Team 4 ecuring 1st place in the B1 level. Our ISU Team 2 (Advanced Chess Team) has successfully advanced to the semifinals, later this month, demonstrating strong performance and strategic play throughout the matches.

Plurilingual Parental Partnerships in Action!

Supporting our multilingual journey is at the heart of what we do — and today was truly special.

Our Grade 1 students spent the first period of the day working in their home language groups, exploring 9 unit words through acting, tracing, discussing, and deep thinking — all in their own languages.

These were Tier 2 words like classify, research, habitats, and environment — words children may not typically use in everyday conversation. Learning and understanding these concepts in their home languages strengthened not only their English development, but also enriched their overall language knowledge.

The students proudly created vocabulary posters to showcase their learning — visible proof of powerful connections being made.

With the support of parent volunteers, teachers, and secondary students, the room was filled with collaboration, curiosity, and meaningful engagement. You could truly feel the connections being formed.

This is what language-friendly learning looks like.
