FRANCESCA BILIANI, THE MODERNIST HOUSE IN FASCIST ITALY: AN AESTHETIC AND POLITICAL PROBLEM

Prof. Billiani (The University of Manchester) è l’autore di Fascist Modernism in Italy (Bloomsbury 2021), Architecture and the Novel under the Italian Fascist Regime (con Laura Pennacchietti, 2019), tra le molte sue pubblicazioni. Ha guidato diversi progetti di ricerca, di cui il più attuale su Geographies and Histories of Murals in 20th Century Italy. Nel suo lavoro esplora le intersezioni tra le sfere storica, culturale, politica ed estetica. La sua ricerca si concentra principalmente sul periodo fascista (traduzione, censura, arti), il romanzo italiano di fine Ottocento (narrativa gotica e fantastica), le riviste letterarie, il Modernismo, la storia dell’editoria, la storia intellettuale e, più recentemente, l’arte pubblica.

Valedictory lecture Harald Hendrix: Sprezzatura and Other Dutch-Italian Discomforts In his lecture, Hendrix discusses the discomfort caused by intercultural misunderstandings and the university’s role in transforming them into valuable insights.
