Joyce Rondaij, docent aan de Protestantse Theologische Universiteit, schreef brieven met schrijver en bioloog Mariken Heitman over onze relatie met de grond. Heitman was begin dit jaar onze Artist in Residence. De briefwisseling 'Vruchtbare grond' is nu te lezen én te beluisteren in De Groene.

Als ze schrijven over hun relatie tot de grond komen Mariken Heitman en Joyce Rondaij al snel uit bij zonde, vergeving en aangeraakt worden. Over courgettebloemen met een strikje en het wortelgekraak van de rozenstruik.

One of the best-known passages in the Letter to Philemon is where Paul writes that, through his conversion to faith in Jesus Christ, Onesimus has become more than a slave: a “beloved brother” (v. 16).

But what does it actually mean to call someone a brother in a context of slavery?

Anyone who truly takes the metaphor of brotherhood and sisterhood seriously, inevitably comes into conflict with slavery. Brotherhood is not innocent religious language; it is a morally charged concept with political and social consequences, argues Martijn Stoutjesdijk in his Bible blog.

The Protestant Theological University (PThU) has appointed Dr Albertina Oegema as Assistant Professor of New Testament. On 8 July 2026, the Executive Committee (moderamen) of the General Synod of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands approved the appointment. This makes the appointment by the Executive Board final. Oegema will begin her new position on 1 August.

Dr. Albertina Oegema is per 1 augustus 2026 de nieuwe universitair docent Nieuwe Testament aan de PThU.
