✨Grace of Glaze is looking for an intern ✨

A hands on role at Grace of Glaze, across marketing, communication, strategy and social media. Some of the work is visible, like content and social. Some of it is behind the scenes, like email flows and the systems that keep the studio running.

I’m looking for someone curious, with a good eye, who wants to think along with me and bring their own ideas to the table. Fluent in English, Dutch is not a necessity. Remote is possible too.

Sound like you? Send me a message at [email protected] and tell me what interests you most.

Pt. 1 — How a Custom Order Comes to Life.

I just shipped out this custom collection, so let me take you behind the scenes of how a commission comes together.

Alexis created this Pinterest board herself, collecting colors and images she naturally gravitates towards. Soft yellows, greens, and blues, with one unexpected pop of red. Everything had this matte, textured quality that made the colors feel soft and muted.

That’s often how a custom porcelain order starts with me. Not with a Pantone code, but with a feeling.

A moodboard makes it possible to communicate what you’re drawn to without having to find the exact words for it. My job is then to translate that feeling into glaze.

For this collection, I pulled six colors from my library of 250+ glazes. And because my glazes are glossy, I also have to account for how much brighter and more alive they’ll look compared to the matte references on the moodboard.

The goal isn’t to copy the colors exactly, but to capture the same feeling in porcelain.

This is Episode 1 of How a Custom Order Comes to Life, following one collection from the first moodboard all the way to the final table.

Whatever we design, designs us back.

I spent a lot of my design studies fascinated by ontological design, the idea that design doesn’t just make objects or solve problems. It shapes who we become and how we see reality itself. A smartphone doesn’t just help you communicate, it reorganizes your attention, your habits, even your sense of self. Nothing we design is neutral.

I think about this constantly with ceramics. A cup doesn’t just hold coffee. It quietly teaches you how to notice color, how to slow down for a second before your day starts, whether you register beauty or just move past it.

That’s the whole reason I do this by hand, one piece at a time. Because I believe what you use every day influences who you become, whether you notice it or not.

Hi, I’m Simone. This is a little glimpse into how I work.

My studio in Amersfoort has the most beautiful sunlight in the afternoon ☀️

Color is the start instead of the final decision.

Each recipe and color combination is captured in a library of hundreds color samples like this one.

The samples can be made into any shape. This custom collection found its home in the Phillipines.

I extract colors from your moodboard and create a collection that feels like you.

Send a DM, let’s start creating your custom collection.

The changing textures are so beautiful to observe. I just can’t help myself but show you glimpses of the stages that came before the final piece.
