Are you interested in conflict- and human rights-related content, with a special focus on the African continent? Let us introduce you to Emma Bergmans! Speaking to you from Kenia, Emma will tell you everything about her specialisation in Conflict Studies and Human rights and how she uses her expertise as a Programme Coordinator Safety & Emergency Response at Free Press Unlimited. She once started her journey as an exchange student in South Africa, but has since then worked at the volunteer organizations PUM, Vluchtelinenwerk Nederland and the Dutch NGO Free Press Unlimited. Here she focusses on making reliable information available for everyone, especially where press freedom seems as a far-sought idea. Have you always been interested in bringing your academic knowledge to the societal work field? Let us introduce you to Zeinab Bouljhaf! Zeinab uses her study background in Islamic and Arabic studies, which she now uses to tackle various societal conflicts as Employee Radicalisation & Extremism at the Municipality of Amsterdam (Gemeente Amsterdam). Where religion turns its head up in various fields, Zeinab will talk about how she uses her expertise to work with this subject on a local level. Merit studeerde Liberal Arts and Sciences aan de Universiteit Utrecht en ging onder andere te werk als secretaris van de Onderwijscommissie (OC). Na haar studie ontwikkelde ze zich tot een echte ondernemer. Eerst als mede-eigenaar van Jonge Honden, nu als zelfstandige werkzaam voor verschillende interessante organisaties, zoals de Politie, Wandelnet en de RUG. Kortom, zoals ze zelf zegt ‘echt een typische LAS’er, alleen dan in de werkende wereld: ik probeer vanalles en doe wat ik leuk vind. Daar vertel ik graag over.’

Zo vertelt ze: ‘Eén van de belangrijkste waarden in mijn leven is (persoonlijke) ontwikkeling. Ik streef naar een wereld waarin personen en teams zich willen ontwikkelen en waarbij zij de juiste begeleiding krijgen om het beste uit zichzelf te halen. Om deze beweging te veroorzaken, gebruik ik mijn vindingrijkheid, oprechtheid en daadkracht. Vanuit belangstelling voor andere mensen en inzicht in (complexe) vraagstukken probeer ik mensen en teams te helpen waar ik kan.’

Do you see yourself working as editor-in-chief of a magazine? Would you like to help people develop their communicative skills? Meet our next English speaking alumna: Lian Blasse!

Lian Blasse studied Celtic Languages and Culture here at Utrecht University and graduated from the Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance Studies master in 2015. During her master she contributed as Student Assistant to the Medieval Irish Bilingualism Project and worked as a tour guide at Museum Speelklok, located in the historical centre of Utrecht. Since 10 years she has been part of the folk-pop band Twigs and Twine; she is a violinist, autoharpist, pianist and singer. The newest album Long Story Short can be found on Spotify.
From 2015 to 2018 Lian was the editor-in-chief of the magazine of the Van Hamel Foundation for Celtic Studies, thus staying connected to the field even after her graduation. Until last year she worked as support and project manager at Faculty of Skills, a company that offers blended programmes for training communicative skills. Since April she works as product manager at 62damrak Books in Hilversum, where she supports Dutch and Belgian bookstores in buying English-language books.

Want to be responsible for the content of the Tivoli program? Negotiating with large companies and agencies? Want to be busy with music day after day? For this woman it is the most normal thing in the world. Meet our next English-speaking alumna: Carine Hartman!

Carine graduated from the University of Amsterdam with a bachelor’s degree in Musicology. During this bachelor she did an internship at the International Chamber Music Festival on Schiermonnikoog. After this she successfully completed her master’s degree in Applied Musicology in Utrecht. She has also contributed to the Grachtenfestival and the Pianoduo Festival in Amsterdam! Now she is assistant programmer at TivoliVredenburg Ask her all your burning questions about programming for a big stage.

Are you passionate about the online content production of your favourite television shows? Are you curious to see what it is like to be present on the set and take breathtaking pictures of the most important moments during the filming process? If you are looking to know the ins and outs behind online content production, like social media, Joyce Hansson is more than willing to tell you everything you need to know!

Joyce studied Media & Culture, known as Science of Theatre- Film- and Television at the time of her graduation. During her Bachelor Joyce followed a production internship at ‘Het Sinterklaasjournaal’. During her Master Profession-Oriented Specialization Television and Crossmedia Culture, she was an intern at the Dutch Cultural Media Fund. After completing her Master she started working for AVROTROS as online content producer and photographer. She works for shows like ‘Wie is de Mol?’, the ‘Gouden Televizier-Ring Gala’ and the Eurovision Song Contest and is making her own documentary.
Joyce will be able to answer all your questions about internships, making your way into the work-field and about her current position within AVROTROS. Furthermore, she will be able to inform you about the details of online content production. If you have ever wondered what it is like to work for a (Dutch) public broadcaster, this will be the perfect occasion to get familiar with the job.

Zou jij later grote bedrijven willen helpen om nog beter te kunnen communiceren met hun klanten via social media? Wil jij je later bezig houden met communicatie en organisatie, misschien zelfs op een ministerie? Even voorstellen: Fleur Kokke!

Fleur heeft in 2017 de bachelor CIW aan de Universiteit Utrecht afgerond. In 2015-2016 is ze zelfs voorzitter geweest van SV Contact, de studievereniging van CIW! Na haar bachelor is Fleur de master Beleid, Communicatie en Organisatie gaan volgen aan de VU in Amsterdam. Fleurs carrière begon bij Bol.com als Social Media Expert. Hierna is ze nog werkzaam geweest als consultant bij SOLVE Consulting NL en als Content Marketeer bij Atrivision. Momenteel is Fleur een rijkstrainee bij het Ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken en Koninkrijksrelaties. Binnen de afdeling Democratie houdt ze zich bezig met de aanpak van desinformatie en de organisatie van de Tweede Kamerverkiezingen in maart.
