With great sadness, we learned that one of the true titans of kendo, Sumi Masatake Sensei, Hanshi 8th Dan, passed away on the morning of February 4th, 2026.

Members of WaShinKan have had the honor of receiving instruction and training from Sumi Sensei in many settings; at seminars, competitions, keiko sessions with the Fukuoka University of Education Kendo Club, demonstrations at the Kyoto Enbu Taikai and even through personal interactions. In all of these moments, Sumi Sensei set an enduring example of how kendo can help us become better people. He was known not only for his incredible kiai, relentless practice, and beautiful, connected kendo, but also for his kindness and his warm, humorous nature outside the dojo.

We at WaShinKan would like to express our deepest gratitude for Sumi Sensei’s many years of dedication to kendo worldwide, and for the invaluable guidance and support he provided to all of his students.

このたび、剣道界の真の巨人の一人である 角正武先生（範士八段） が、2026年2月4日早朝にご逝去されたとの訃報に接し、深い悲しみに包まれております。

和心館武道場の会員は、セミナーや大会、福岡教育大学剣道部での稽古、さらには私的な交流を通じて、角先生より直接ご指導・ご稽古を賜るという大きな栄誉に恵まれてまいりました。そうしたあらゆる場面において、角先生は剣道が人をいかに成長させるかを身をもって示してくださいました。圧倒的な気合、たゆまぬ修練、そして美しくつながりのある剣道のみならず、道場外で見せてくださったお人柄の温かさや、親しみ深いユーモアも、私たちの心に深く刻まれています。

和心館一同、世界の剣道界に対する角先生の長年にわたる多大なご貢献、そして多くの門下生に授けてくださった計り知れないご指導とご支援に、心より感謝申し上げます。

先生、これまでのご教導に深く感謝申し上げます。

Sumi Sensei, thank you for your teachings.
