Teaching and assessment in military higher education blend two worlds – academic tradition and military culture – in ways that are both familiar and completely unique.
In this blog for AEA Europe’s Assessment Cultures SIG, Marte Søve Syverud from the Norwegian Defence University College shares her personal experiences of how assessment works in the context of military higher education. She describes how at the Norwegian Defence University College, students are assessed not only on academic performance but through physical tests, field exercises, medical screenings and interviews. Add to this, salutes, codes, and professional conduct and you get a unique and distinct assessment culture.
