This fluffy cutie always accompanies me to Music Monkeys. When we have class, he listens to the music from the office, while taking a nap.
Sometimes, after class, a small curious person comes to the back to say hi and give cuddles. It's amazing to see how gentle he is with little kids. It must be a family trait, since his parents are therapy dogs for children! ♥️

Yesterday, I visited my mom and stumbled upon this old picture of me: teenage Josette trying her father's double bass :))

I was very lucky to grow up in a musical household. My mom sang in the church choir, so my sister and I joined when we were very young (even younger than allowed;). We had a piano at home, my dad played bass and guitar in a jazzband and they even practised in our home!
Music was always around us and we were allowed to try out everything.

I realise this is not the case for all children. So, with Music Monkeys, my goal is to bring music into the lives of as many young children as possible.

Workshop 5 - 8 jaar, 23 augustus om 13:00 uur

In deze speelse workshop gaan we muziek ontdekken op een bijzondere manier: door het te tekenen!
De kinderen gaan hun eigen muzikale symbolen creeëren, met vormen, kleuren, lijnen en patronen.
Door middel van creativiteit, luisteren, beweging en kunst, veranderen we geluiden in beelden en beelden weer in geluiden. We bedenken musicogrammen en grafische partituren om eenvoudige muzikale uitvoeringen te begeleiden.

Muzikale ervaring is niet nodig, alleen nieuwsgierigheid, verbeeldingskracht en een liefde voor muziek en tekenen!

In this playful 45-minute workshop for children aged 5 to 8, we explore music in a whole new way — by drawing it! Instead of using traditional sheet music, the children will create their own musical symbols using shapes, colors, lines, and patterns. Through creative listening, movement, and art, participants will turn sounds into pictures and pictures back into sounds, inventing musicograms and graphic scores to guide simple musical performances.
No musical experience is needed — just curiosity, imagination, and a love of music and drawing!

🎵✨ Storytelling with Music ✨🎵
Join teacher Fanni on August 2nd or 9th for a musical, magical adventure!

Welcome to our Storytelling with Music workshop.
This isn’t just any story — it’s one we’ll tell together, and you’ll help create the soundtrack with your voices, bodies, and musical instruments! A soundtrack is all the sounds and music that bring a story to life, like footsteps, wind, animal sounds, or happy dance music.
First, Fanni will tell you a little story. Then we’ll explore instruments and sound ideas to match different parts of the tale, and at the end, we’ll perform the whole story together like a musical play! There’s no right or wrong — just your imagination, your ideas, and lots of fun.

Ze is geliefd op veel peuterscholen en kinderdagverblijven, maar helaas moeten ze het even zonder haar doen: Romy is met zwangerschapsverlof! Maandag heeft ze op de laatste zomerschool les gegeven. Midden november is ze weer terug. Ik bof, want dan hebben we er een nieuwe baby bij in de muzieklessen ;)
Geniet van je verlof Romy en alvast heel veel liefs voor je gezin ♥️

On the road with my bassguitar and lots of study books!

While my teachers still have classes this week, I am off to an intensive study week.
Monday until Saturday, 9 am - 9 pm, once again, I will be immersed in the world of early childhood music.

I love how there are always new things to learn, to challenge what you already know and already practice. Let's see if my classes will be different after summer!

Guess who cried after her final classes this week? ⬆️
Well, to be fair, I wasn't the only one ;)

It always touches me when kids are ready to go to school, having seen them grow up and get to guide them musically for years.

But this one class was a special case. The majority of this group just turned 4 or will turn 4 during summer, so they had their final class with me. And, a few of these families have been with me for 6 years. I have seen their families grow, siblings being born, and all of them joining music class. But, no new babies in the families! So not just time to say goodbye to the kid, but to the whole family.
So, when I had my goodbye speech after class, I burst into tears and was joined by the parents...

We - my colleagues and I - do this work with so much love. Love for music, love for education, love for the children and their families. And to notice how you appreciate what we do and see the value of our classes (not just as 'something fun to pass the time', although our classes are a lot of fun as well ;) ), makes us very happy.

Trying to finish everything before the summer holidays: it is 23:25 when writing this message. Almost time to go home 😉

Happy to announce that our 2025-2026 schedule is online!
Our new semester starts in the second week of September.

A few changes:
Monday classes will be taught by Fanni instead of me;
Saturday will have two classes for kids 4 – 6 years! One in Dutch, one in English;
The schedule for the piano and violin classes is not yet online, but you can already send us a message at [email protected] if you are interested in this.

Wat was het afgelopen zaterdag een feestje!

Voor de landelijke dag had ons uitgenodigd om naar 7 van hun filialen te komen om muziek te maken met de allerjongsten.

Dus daar gingen we; Romy, Elena C en ikzelf, alledrie gewapend met muziekkoffer, ukelele en Apie, Den Haag door.

Bij deze lessen lag de focus iets meer op taalontwikkeling dan normaal (we waren immers in de bibliotheek), dus gebruikten we o.a. babyboekjes, prentenboeken, gebarentaal en liedjes die specifiek voor de taalontwikkeling zijn bedoeld.

Zo, ik geniet nog even na met de chocolaatjes die ik van m'n oude bieb-collega's heb gekregen :))
