Accidents in the blink of an eye? They often happen in everyday situations!

Safety is often associated with major disasters, but the numbers tell a different story. Most workplace accidents simply happen during everyday situations. Whether you are on the work floor or just outside: an accident can happen in the blink of an eye.

Did you know that the top 5 most common workplace accidents consist of:
1. Falls, trips, or slips (often due to liquids or scattered materials);
2. Being struck by falling objects;
3. Entrapment between machines or tools;
4. Physical strain (incorrect lifting or repetitive movements);
5. Psychological strain (aggression in the workplace or extreme work pressure).

Many of these incidents even take place outside the building, such as in parking lots or during site visits. Because we consider these environments 'normal,' our attention tends to waver, even though that is exactly where the most progress can be made in terms of prevention.

The first step is knowing the theory. In our e-learning, you will learn how to act proactively in these everyday situations, ensuring you prevent accidents before they happen—whether you are behind your desk or out on a site.

Stay one step ahead of the risks and use the code VEILIG2026 for a special discount on our e-learning (valid for 2 weeks only!:

Did you know? a building actually works like a ship with watertight bulkheads?

Imagine a building as a series of "fireproof boxes." This is known as fire compartmentalization. The concept is simple yet life-saving: by dividing the building into smaller sections using fire-resistant walls, floors, and doors, the fire is trapped within a single space.

This process works exactly like the watertight bulkheads of a ship: if a leak (or fire) occurs in one area, the entire ship doesn't sink immediately! Depending on the construction, the fire is held back for 30, 60, or even 120 minutes within one compartment.

Why is this so crucial?

It buys people much-needed time to evacuate safely.
It gives the fire department the chance to extinguish the fire before it spreads to the rest of the complex.

You will learn the theory behind fire safety and how to recognize these 'fireproof boxes' in our e-learning. This ensures you know exactly where the safe zones are in your work environment.

Don't let your knowledge go up in smoke. Use code VEILIG2026 for a discount on our e-learning!

In our practical course, you then learn how to apply this knowledge during a real evacuation. Because knowing where the compartments are is one thing, but using them correctly during an emergency is what truly matters.

Reporting is preventing: Reduce the chance of accidents by 40%!

Did you know that a safe workplace starts with talking about unsafe situations? As shown in the image: "Reports reduce the risk of accidents by up to 40%!". This figure demonstrates that flagging near-misses or dangerous situations isn't 'snitching'—it's a life-saving action.

When we report incidents, we create a learning environment where mistakes aren't repeated. It allows an organization to take preventive measures before something truly goes wrong. Whether it's a loose cable or an unclear procedure: every report is a step toward zero accidents.

Want to discover how to build an effective safety culture where reporting is key? Read more about the importance of prevention and safety management on our website.

Did you know... an ordinary smoke detector doesn't belong in every room?

It sounds logical: install a smoke detector everywhere for maximum safety. But did you know that in the kitchen, garage, or bathroom, you're better off installing a thermal detector (heat detector)?

The problem with standard smoke detectors:
A regular smoke detector works with a light beam that is interrupted by smoke particles. The issue? It cannot tell the difference between dangerous fire smoke and harmless cooking fumes, exhaust gases, or steam from the shower. This causes many false alarms, leading people to remove the battery – which is truly dangerous!

The solution: The Heat Detector
A thermal detector does not react to steam or smoke, but to a rapid rise in temperature (often above 58°C). Perfect for rooms where vapors are normal, but where you still want to be warned in case of an actual fire.

Want to know which detector is required or wise for each location in your building? Read all about professional fire safety advice

In our e-learning, you will learn all about detection methods and how to prevent false alarms without compromising safety.

The AED: Do you dare to press the button?
Imagine this: a colleague suddenly collapses. Someone grabs the AED from the wall and places it next to the victim. What is your biggest concern at that moment?

A. I'm afraid I'll give a shock when it's not necessary.
B. I'm not sure exactly how to place the electrodes.
C. No worries, I'll just follow the AED's voice instructions.
D. I'd rather wait for an official first responder or the ambulance.

Did you know that an AED automatically analyzes whether a shock is needed? You practically can't do it wrong, as long as you turn the device on. The biggest mistake is doing nothing!

In our e-learning, we explain step-by-step how an AED works, lowering the barrier to help. Knowledge removes fear.

Did you know that reaching 112 is now even faster and easier?

When every second counts, swift and accurate emergency response is crucial. As seen in the image: "Did you know? In case of an emergency, you can reach 112 via the 112NL app." This app is a fantastic innovation in emergency assistance.

With the 112NL app, you don't just call the emergency dispatch center directly; the app also automatically transmits your exact location. Furthermore, you can communicate via a chat function, which is ideal for the hearing impaired or if you are unable to speak due to the situation. It is the modern way to increase your chances of receiving fast, effective help.

However, technology is only one part of the solution. Knowing how to make contact is step one; knowing what to do until emergency services arrive is step two. In our e-learning, you will learn the essential actions to stay calm and act effectively during those critical minutes before the ambulance or fire department arrives.

Did you know... your voice is the fastest alarm system?
In a world full of advanced technology, we often forget the most direct tool we have: ourselves. Did you know that the absolute fastest way to signal immediate danger is often simply your voice?

By shouting "FIRE!" or "HELP!" loudly and clearly, you immediately grab the attention of those around you, even before a technical system is activated. In a professional setting, this is immediately followed by pressing the manual call point or alarm button. The goal? To reduce the reaction time of bystanders to zero, so that the evacuation starts immediately while the EROs are being alerted.

You will learn the theory of effective alerting and communication during a crisis in our e-learning. This ensures you know exactly how to stay calm while still creating the necessary urgency.

Panic in the kitchen! What is your first reaction?
Imagine this: you're cooking and suddenly the pan catches fire. The flames are reaching for the extractor hood. What is the first thing you do? Be honest, because in a moment of panic, we often make the wrong choice!

A. Quickly put the pan under the tap in the sink.
B. Throw a damp tea towel over the pan.
C. Turn off the heat source and slide a fitting lid onto the pan.
D. Blow hard to extinguish the flames.

Many people instinctively choose option A or B, but did you know this can cause a life-threatening fireball? One liter of water turns into 1700 liters of steam in a fraction of a second, resulting in a massive explosion of fire!

You will learn the theory behind these chemical reactions and how to stay calm during an incident in our e-learning. This prevents a small flame from turning into a major disaster.
