Introducing Endo Ozana Eloïs: ECHO Award Nominee 2025🌟

Endo Ozana Eloïs is a young leader from Rotterdam driven by a deep commitment to justice, inclusion, and social change. After completing his degree in Political Science at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam), he began a master’s in Comparative Politics and Conflict Studies at the The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Focusing on Sub-Saharan Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Endo seeks to use academic research as a tool for empowerment — connecting knowledge with the lived realities of communities rebuilding from conflict and working toward more equitable and accountable systems of governance. 🏫

As a dedicated member of the Rotterdam Youth Council, Endo has helped develop initiatives to strengthen youth participation and civic engagement across the city. Collaborating with young people and community stakeholders, he has worked to ensure that local voices are not only heard but transformed into tangible policy change. His collaboration with MISA in the DRC further deepened this mission, reinforcing his belief that representation and shared decision-making are essential for lasting social impact. 📑✍🏽

For Endo, leadership is rooted in empathy and collective purpose. Presenting Nour Alkheder: ECHO Award Nominee 2025✨

Nour Alkheder is a visionary Syrian-Dutch filmmaker based in Amsterdam who has spent the past eleven years transforming the spaces between cultures into stories that connect us all. A graduate of the Netherlands Film Academy with a degree in documentary directing, Nour’s films — Draw Me a Homeland and The Birds Shall Return — are deeply personal explorations of memory, identity, and belonging. Her lens captures the intimate and emotional landscapes of diaspora, offering audiences a rare glimpse into the resilience and tenderness of displaced lives. 🎬

With courage and empathy, Nour and her crew have journeyed through North Africa and the Middle East, seeking out voices and narratives rarely seen in Dutch cinema. Through these experiences, she not only deepened her own perspective but also encouraged audiences to engage with voices and viewpoints that are often underrepresented. Her films are not just visual experiences; they are acts of listening, witnessing, and understanding, reshaping the way we see humanity in one another. 🎥🕊️

As a strong believer in the power of narrative, she sees storytelling as a bridge between cultures, one that can foster understanding but also reveal the fractures that divide us. Meet Kas Tse Wen Ho: ECHO Award Nominee 2025 💫

Kas Tse Wen Ho is driving impact through education, research, and human rights advocacy. At just 24 years old, he bridges the worlds of academia and activism, using his knowledge to advance equality and inclusion. A graduate of Leiden University with a BA in Latin American Studies, Kas earned an exceptional 9.0 for his thesis on Quechua linguistic rights in Peru, shining a light on the importance of linguistic justice and Indigenous representation. His research on Malintzin further explores gender, feminism, and historical narratives, contributing to broader conversations on decoloniality and inclusion in Latin America. 🎓✨

Beyond his academic achievements, Kas has worked to advance educational justice and challenge structural inequalities in learning environments. As a teaching assistant, he supported children learning Dutch as a second language, primarily from Turkish and Moroccan backgrounds, advocating for equitable access to education and the recognition of multilingual identities. In his role as president of the Interlatina student association, he fostered spaces of solidarity and representation, organizing cultural and academic initiatives that empowered students from diverse backgrounds and strengthened the call for inclusion within the university community. 📚

Today, Kas continues to create meaningful change through his work at the Human Rights Department in Costa Rica, where he supports initiatives that protect LGBTQ+ and Indigenous communities. Combining academic insight with real-world advocacy, he ensures that human rights work remains both reflective and transformative. Introducing Ikraam Maalim: ECHO Award Nominee 2025🌟

Ikraam Maalim, a Somali-Dutch first-generation (medical) student at Radboud University, is reshaping the landscape of inclusion in education and healthcare. Her journey shows how lived experience can drive meaningful change, where representation becomes action and advocacy sparks transformation. 💫🌍

Through her involvement with CODING, SOMI, New Rootz, and ARA, Ikraam is breaking barriers and building bridges. From advancing diversity in medicine to creating spaces of belonging for Somali-Dutch and newcomer youth, her work centers those whose voices have too often been overlooked. Her co-authored ARA policy report initiated vital conversations with university leadership on decolonizing the curriculum, inclusive research, and safe learning environments, challenging institutions to move beyond words toward accountability. Within CODING, she continues to address bias in healthcare and push for structural reform in medical education to ensure a more just and equitable future for all patients. 🩺🔥

Through SOMI and New Rootz, Ikraam cultivates community and mentorship for youth navigating systems not designed for them. Her initiatives empower young people to grow in confidence, pursue their ambitions, and see themselves reflected in spaces of success. Presenting Dia Deepanshi: ECHO Award Nominee 2025✨

Dia Deepanshi is a dedicated Master of Medicine student at the University of Groningen and a board member at De Geneeskundestudent, the national advocacy organization for Dutch medical students. Her work stands at the intersection of medicine, justice, and education. Shaped by her roots in India and her experiences navigating systems across languages and cultures, Dia is guided by a vision to make medicine more just and humane. She approaches education as a transformative space where awareness evolves into structural change. 🏥💫

From the classroom to the clinic, Dia has advocated for equity in medical education and patient care. She co-developed a nationally distributed clinical interpreter-use card to ensure communication equity in healthcare, and as Vice Chair of the Programme Committee of Medicine, she helped embed social safety and cultural competence into faculty priorities. Her leadership turns advocacy into practical reforms that strengthen inclusion in medical training.

At her faculty, Dia also contributes to Medicine on the Move, leading teaching activities that highlight the healthcare experiences of migrants and refugees. Through co-led symposiums and policy initiatives, she amplifies voices too often unheard and connects medical education with broader conversations on equity and belonging. Her work envisions a healthcare system where learning and care evolve together, where understanding difference becomes an act of care itself. 💙

Meet Ish*ta Gupta: ECHO Award Nominee 2025💫

Ish*ta Gupta, a fierce international student at the University of Amsterdam, brings a global perspective shaped by her journey from New Delhi, India, to Hong Kong, and now to Amsterdam, where she majors in Law within the PPLE program. Her cross-cultural upbringing has deeply influenced her passion for equity, representation, and belonging, driving her commitment to create inclusive spaces where every voice is valued. 🌏

At UvA, Ish*ta has demonstrated remarkable leadership as Co-Chair of the PPLE Diversity Board, Head of General Volunteers for UNICEF Amsterdam, and Editorial Coordinator of the PPLE Academic Journal. In her role as Co-Chair, she worked closely with faculty and management to make the PPLE curriculum more accessible, while spearheading initiatives that celebrated cultural heritage—from Diwali festivities to the creation of contemplation roomsfor prayer, meditation, and reflection. Her efforts have fostered meaningful dialogue and strengthened the sense of community across diverse student backgrounds.

Ish*ta’s dedication to social engagement is deeply rooted in her lived experience navigating identity and belonging across continents. Transforming personal reflection into action, she has led over 150 volunteers at UNICEF Amsterdam and coordinated community projects supporting refugees and undocumented citizens. For Ish*ta, meaningful change begins with empathy and everyday acts of connection. 💬💖

As she looks to the future, Ish*ta aspires to carry these lessons into her legal career, amplifying underrepresented narratives and shaping systems that prioritize inclusivity and justice. Introducing Soumeya Mezian: ECHO Award Nominee 2025🌟

Soumeya Mezian Mezian is a transformative 22-year-old healthcare student and advocate from Rotterdam, proudly carrying her Moroccan-Riffian roots into every space she enters. A graduate with a BSc. in Medicine from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) and currently pursuing her MSc. in Health Care Management at Erasmus University Rotterdam, Soumeya is deeply committed to advancing equal opportunity and cultural sensitivity in healthcare. Her work reflects a passion for creating systems that see, understand, and serve every patient with dignity. 🏥🌍

Throughout her academic journey, Soumeya has been a Young Leader with the Young Leaders Community, where she helped launch de Talenten Academie — a program empowering Moroccan-Dutch elementary school students with essential skills and confidence for their future. She also works at the Alzheimer’s Center of Erasmus MC as a translator at the outpatient memory clinic for immigrants, improving inclusivity in Alzheimer’s diagnostics and organizing workshops for caregivers to strengthen culturally sensitive care. 🧠💬

In research, Soumeya contributes to Health Equity Research, assisting studies that expose inequality in higher education and exploring diversity within the Dutch medical field, particularly among gynecologists. Her work bridges science, compassion, and social justice, a reflection of her belief that healthcare should be equitable, inclusive, and deeply human.

Presenting Jeralma Tromp: ECHO Award Nominee 2025✨

Jeralma Tromp is an Aruban student with Caribbean and Latin American roots and is a dedicated advocate for equity, wellbeing, and community empowerment. Currently studying Social Work and Social Legal Services at Inholland University of Applied Sciences, her journey from overcoming language barriers in vmbo-basis to excelling in higher education is a testament to resilience, purpose, and the power of transformation. 🌍

As Chair of CAMBES Caribbean United (CCU), Jeralma uplifts and unites Caribbean students across Inholland campuses. She mentors peers, co-creates initiatives that foster confidence and belonging, and works to strengthen institutional recognition and support for Caribbean students within the university. Through her leadership, CCU has become a space where students grow as empowered, engaged, and socially conscious changemakers. Within the SEA Student Council, Jeralma brings the voices and lived experiences of Caribbean students to the policy table, ensuring inclusion, equity, and representation move beyond aspiration into action. As a member of the GSW South Holland Programme Committee, she has also helped shape educational policy, translating student experiences into structural change that makes education more inclusive and reflective of diverse realities. 🗣️📚

Through the We Belong initiative, Jeralma co-led efforts to strengthen wellbeing and connection among Social Work students, and the Food Resilient Futures project, which connects social and ecological justice across the Dutch Caribbean. From promoting local food systems to fostering student belonging, her work bridges sustainability and social justice. Beyond her academic roles, Jeralma volunteers with Stichting Natuurbeheer Waalbos to support biodiversity, and coaches students during PowerDays to help them build confidence and self-awareness. As a mentor and budget coach, she empowers families to regain financial stability and trust, demonstrating that true empowerment begins with empathy and action.
