This flow existed in a static, siloed, and 'product line' type of education, but it was to keep the system alive: x number of learners, x number of teachers, x number of schools created the flow and fed the system. As a result, a very powerful 'intellectual' system flow has been created!
The flow in eastern education was to follow the master and practice until it became second nature. That is why repetition was such an important part of creating the flow. Westerners, on the other hand, heavily criticized this repetition as being static, robotic, and ignoring creativity or critical thinking. Many test results demonstrated this, with many eastern students excelling in sciences but failing in writing and oral skills.
This resulted in a plethora of inconsistencies between eastern and western educational models. Whereas in a narrative 'neatly described, tested, and proven,' the western system won in the narrative of education in academia. Traditional, indigenous knowledge systems became modernity's archaic appendicitis. Abacus mental math was one of those losses that modern schools removed from the curriculum, even in China. And in the West, it was only regarded as an ancient calculating tool.
