Study in Málaga, current situation:
Spanish language schools in Malaga are at the forefront of a local pilot program of antigen tests for Covid-19 conducted by the local authorities to highlight the city as a safe study and travel destination.
NACEM, the association of language schools in Málaga, has participated in a scheme operated by the city council with the performance of 400 antigen tests in employees.
The Málaga Tourism and City Promotion Board said that the main objective of the initiative was to “promote the image of Malaga as a safe destination” and said that it was essential that companies and institutions work together and collaborate to help the recovery of the most affected activities.
“Language tourism is one of Málaga's strategic sectors, as it combines learning the country's language with the enjoyment of cultural attractions, socio-cultural heritage and the consumption of other complementary products,” said the organization.
“Furthermore, language tourism has a double positive impact for the city. Not only does it attract a great deal of demand, but it also generates prescribers and potential demand for the future; emotional ties are created and students end up becoming ambassadors of Málaga. Most Spanish language schools in Málaga are operating normally and complying with the safety protocols under the School Covid Safe charter launched by Spanish language school federation FEDELE - Español en España".
Málaga City Council is attempting to demonstrate the advantages and effectiveness of carrying out the tests, and is encouraging sectors such as tourism to incorporate the practice to convey a message of safety and to help stop the spread of the virus. The Council has purchased 2,000 antigen tests, which it said offer rapid, economic and early detection and can be a good ally in the management of outbreaks, according to the World Health Organization.
NACEM comprises of 13 Spanish language providers in Málaga and works to promote the city as a language destination and raise awareness of the value of the language sector to the local economy.
