Op 14-jarige leeftijd liep Vincent vast in het reguliere onderwijs en verloor hij het vertrouwen in school en in zichzelf. Bij UStudy Academy volgde hij online een paar Amerikaanse high school vakken en vond hij zijn motivatie en zelfvertrouwen terug. Op basis van zijn cijferlijst en motivatie werd hij toegelaten tot de studie van zijn keuze en begint hij na de zomer met enthousiasme op het Nova College in Haarlem. Zijn verhaal laat zien hoe een passende leeromgeving het verschil kan maken.

SUMMER SKILLS DAY CAMP - Limburg, the Netherlands
On the campus of UStudy Academy@Watersley at Watersley Sports & Talentpark near Sittard.

This special week has been designed around the values that sit at the heart of our school: curiosity, creativity, independence, wellbeing, and community. It is an opportunity for young people aged 11–18 to learn new skills, make new friends, connect with nature, and challenge themselves through a range of engaging and hands-on experiences.

Throughout the week, students will work alongside our wonderful team of specialists and mentors who are passionate about helping young people discover their strengths and develop confidence through real-life learning experiences.

Students will have the opportunity to:

➡️ Explore the beautiful Watersley forests and learn practical survival skills. 🥾🌳🌲
➡️ Experience a unique forest-to-table adventure by foraging for ingredients, learning about edible plants, and preparing an outdoor meal together. 🔍🌿🍽️
➡️ Take part in our horse stable sustainability project, helping to plant herbs for the horses, learn about animal care, and contribute to the development of our campus environment. 🐴 🪏 🧲
➡️ Express their creativity through inspiring hands-on workshops. 🎨
➡️ Develop focus, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills through chess activities and challenges.♟️
➡️ Collaborate and create through daily music workshops. 🪕🎶🥁
➡️ Learn valuable food preparation skills during a sushi-making workshop🍣 🥢 with alternative options available for students who prefer something different.👨‍🍳

Cost: €250 per student (includes all materials, lunch, snacks and drinks)

Student Story: How I finally found a way of learning that fits me

Have you ever felt like school just doesn’t fit you? That’s how I felt in the Dutch school system. Everything was about memorising and tests. Everyone had to learn the same way.

Hi, I’m A.K. I’m 13 years old and I love martial arts, chess, and online gaming.

I learn best when I can explore ideas, think creatively, and use my skills. That’s why I’m grateful I enrolled at UStudy Academy Online and discovered Centric Learning. Their hands-on, project-based approach fits me perfectly. Here, they respect who I am and help me grow — not only academically, but personally too.

The teachers always start with what you did well. Even when you make mistakes, they guide you positively on how to improve. When I miss a live class, my teacher sends me a personal message to wish me well. Once I was the only student in class, and we had a great conversation instead of a normal lesson. That meant a lot to me.

I love that I can choose my own topics and research things I’m curious about, like comparing people I admire to movie heroes or combining maths and technology in projects. I once wrote about online bullying and shared it with other students. Their feedback showed me that my ideas matter.

Working with international teachers and students makes me feel like a global citizen. Learning now feels exciting and connected to the world.

I’ve learned this: education doesn’t have to be the same for everyone.

Find a way of learning that works for you. Be curious, be brave, and don’t give up on what excites you. With the support of Principal Marina Meijer and her team, I’ve found exactly that.
