Canine NOSE

This year, we quietly passed a milestone: more than 120 deployments completed with K9 Bo and the team.

One of the most memorable assignments was at Schiphol Airport, where we worked with a major airline. It was challenging and rewarding — but honestly, every other deployment has been just as important.

Our work takes us all over the country, from city apartments to rural homes, hotels, hospitals and shelters, and even different types of vehicles. Along the way, we meet people from many cultural backgrounds, each with their own story and circumstances.

Not every environment is easy. Some homes are filthy or even unsafe, while others are so cluttered that moving around is nearly impossible. There are times when we have curious pets, heat, odors, or noise to contend with — yet the dogs stay focused, calm, and determined.

I’m grateful for the trust clients place in us, for every kilometer traveled, and for all the people and pets we meet along the way. Each deployment is a reminder of why I do this work: to help create safer, cleaner, and more comfortable living environments — one search at a time.

🐾 92 Deployments in 2025 — almost there!

This year we’ve already searched over 500 apartments, plus vehicles, luggage, and a few homes where we had to squeeze between stacks of stuff 😅

We’ve met curious cats, excited dogs, and some truly unforgettable people along the way. Every search is different — and our dogs keep showing incredible focus and drive, no matter the conditions.

When we hit 100 deployments, we’ll take a well-earned break — both two- and four-legged team members deserve it!

Awakenings

A (working)dog team is only as strong as the handler is aware

No matter how well a (working) dog is trained, all this training will go down the drain if the handler has not confronted themselves with their own awareness. I firmly believe that the human end of the leash needs to be a certain way in order to uphold and maintain any former training the dog has had. While we as trainers focus a lot on all the skills the dog needs to acquire to do the given job, the handler plays a far bigger role than we all think.
The “what” is determined by our heart, the “how” by our mind. Usually trainers and dog handlers are far more concerned about “how” to train a certain behaviour hence so many different methodologies accompanied by the same amount or even more fights over which methodology is the best.
So “what” are dog handlers and trainers actually doing? Do they know for themselves? Do they believe in the cause for doing so? Do they feel this as a “calling”? Is this all authentic or just imposed by external factors compelling them to be a dog handler because it seems to be a “cool” thing to do and gets you a lot of validation from others?

For me, the “what” I am doing in my life always needs to be pure, authentic. It needs to resonate with my very being and my core values. Whether it be on personal level or on business level.

A big congradulations to Anna and K9 Co***ne in passing their ORT this week! All the way from Sweden with alot of operational experience already, K9 Co***ne did not let us down. Well done Anna for training him to be such an effective Narcotics Detection Dog!

📍 Een enorme operatie afgerond voor Verkerk Facilitair!

De afgelopen 6 weken hebben we een grootschalige bedwantsen-detectieklus uitgevoerd, waarbij we meer dan 140 woningen hebben geïnspecteerd. 🚪🐾

🌍 Afstand: Bijna 8000 km afgelegd van Sappemeer naar Alpen aan de Rijn en terug.
🚗 Tijd in de auto: Meer dan 100 uur!
🐕 Team: 3 gedreven honden en 1 toegewijde handler.
🔍 Resultaten: In diverse woningen bedwantsen gevonden, variërend van lichte (enkele, moeilijk te vinden) tot zware besmettingen (met het blote oog zichtbaar).

Het was een intensieve klus, maar de samenwerking met Verkerk Facilitair en de ondersteuning van onze honden maakte dit werk mogelijk. We zijn trots op de betrouwbaarheid van ons team en het verschil dat we kunnen maken in het bestrijden van deze hardnekkige plaag. 💪🐾

Met dit project laten we opnieuw zien dat detectiehonden een onmisbare schakel zijn in effectieve plaagdierbeheersing.

Het Leven draait niet altijd om Uiterlijkheden, maar om Kwaliteit

Ik beschouw mezelf als een criticus. Niet op een manier die destructief is, maar ik stel mezelf vaak de vraag: "Waarom?" Het is iets dat ik de laatste jaren steeds vaker doe—ik neem dingen minder snel serieus en wil begrijpen waarom we dingen doen zoals we ze doen. Veel van wat we in het leven zien, draait om uiterlijkheden, maar ik kan daar steeds minder mee. Het gaat mij meer om de inhoud, de waarde en de echte impact van wat ik doe.

In mijn werk, vooral in de hondenwereld, ben ik er echt op gericht om kwaliteit te leveren. Het is iets waar ik hard voor werk, en ik ben trots op de resultaten die we boeken. Maar eerlijk gezegd, werkt het binnen deze wereld niet altijd zo makkelijk. Het kan soms frustrerend zijn—het is een vakgebied waarin veel meningen en ego's spelen, en waar je soms tegen muren aanloopt.

Toch blijf ik vastberaden. Want voor mij gaat het uiteindelijk niet om de buitenkant of de meningen van anderen, maar om de waarde die ik kan leveren, en om het werk dat ik elke dag met passie en toewijding doe. Het draait om de impact die ik kan maken, en de kwaliteit die ik blijf nastreven.

Wie herkent zich in de zoektocht naar die echte kwaliteit, zonder te veel aandacht voor de oppervlakkige zaken? Ik ben benieuwd naar jullie gedachten.
