Last saturday 14 February, our great teacher and colleague Christian Schmitt turned 50 and celebrated his birthday that day! Congrats Christian!

Meet the organ teachers of Codarts!
Today: Geerten Liefting, teacher of Organ improvisation
Geerten Liefting studied Organ, Church music, Composition with Reitze Smits, Wim Henderickx, Luc van Hove and Improvisation with Hayo Boerema.
He is titulair organist of the St. Bonaventura in Woerden and also assistent organist of Grote of St. Laurenskerk Rotterdam.
He won first and second prizes in improvisation competitions in Haarlem, Schwäbisch-Gmuend, Münster, Luxemburg, Biarritz and also won the Hinsz composition competition in Kampen.
Geerten performs widely as an organist and improviser, and regularly gives recitals in which he accompanies silent film with organ improvisations.
Since September 2025, He has been teaching organ improvisation at Codarts.
