Indian Raga’s have a deep connection with our inner life and sentiment. Indian Classical music is an ancient music style with roots in the Vedic traditions and philosophy.
How this connection works exactly, how this music genre originated and evolved and how the artists learn and perform this music has been investigated by Gita Desai in her documentary “Raga Unveiled” in 2009.

On Sunday February 28th at 16h CET Prewien Pandohi-Mishre will host an online Q&A session with Gita Desai, sitarist Purbayan Chatterjee and vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty. They will tell us about the impact of this documentary and how they experience this music nowadays.

Before this online Q&A session, a screening of the documentary is being organized from February 26th till February 28th.

The promotion of the Indian arts in Rotterdam is taking shape further through the event "Yogic Slumber", organized by de Doelen and DesiYUP. The program consists of a kidsconcert in the morning and a laying down concert for adults in the afternoon. Prewien Pandohi-Mishre will sing Mantra’s based in Indian classical melodies and will be accompanied by Daniëlle Van Driel Veltman on harp and vocals.
The ticket sales have just started and we would like to invite all to be a part of this beautiful concerts!

The poetry of 16th century Hindu mystic poet Meerabai is timeless and exemplary in expressing Devotional love. In the poem “Mere to Giridhar Gopala”, Meerabai declares her love for her beloved Lord Krishna who is the one and only love of her life. This bhajan composition has been passed on by the Late Shree Koustuv Ray, who was my teacher. The composition is set in Raag Madhuvanti , which has a very distinct romantic flavor. The video was produced by DesiYUP and was shot by Flamboyant Media in the prestigious concert hall De Doelen in Rotterdam. Hope you enjoy it!

Last Saturday. Yoga Nidra Concert at the Nieuwe Kerk. A church full of people lying down in a slumber mode enjoying relaxing Indian Mantra’s and spiritual songs. It was a beautiful experience to be part of. Thanks to Aks&Lakshmi, Daniëlle Van Driel Veltman, Zuiderstrandtheater and DesiYUP!

CODARTS Exam_part 3 The final piece of the concert was a fusion piece between Indian and Flamenco music, based on Raga Bhairavi, which is in a scale that is used a lot in Flamenco music as well. The piece is called Tarana Tientos. Tarana being a popular category of compositions in Indian classical music where only meaningless syllables are used as lyrics, and Tientos is a slow melancholic type of song used in Flamenco where the singer and guitarist engage in a dialogue. I was accompanied by Anoush Saadat, Yama Sarshar, Sathyam Sheoratan and Deniz Schelfi. The video is uploaded on my YouTUBE channel, and I hope you enjoy it! CODARTS Exam_part 2 The second song I performed during mij final exam is Raga Hansdhwani, a beautiful Raga which has a South-Indian origin. This is Raga which I have tried to learn for many years, and finally I got the chance to perform it. The composition Lagi Lagan Sakhi Pati San is a classic, and is set to a rhythmic cycle of 16 beats (teentala). I was accompanied by Yama Sarshar, Sathyam Sheoratan and Deniz Schelfi.
