We were recently visited by maritime journalists as part of the Blue-C press tour through the Netherlands 🚒

The result is this feature by Maritime Innovations, interviewing two of the leading minds connected to our programme:

Prof. Dr. Albert Veenstra, MEL Academic Director and Professor of Trade and Logistics at Rotterdam School of Management, and Dr. Maurice Jansen, port innovation specialist at the Erasmus Centre for Urban Ports and Transport Economics.

The article covers what MEL graduates actually know and why companies like , , and Vopak consistently recruit from our programme, and what 25 years of maritime research at means for the industry.

Our MSc students are in Copenhagen this week β€” spending the day inside Lauritzen Bulkers A/S, one of Denmark’s leading bulk shipping companies operating 100 vessels worldwide. πŸš’πŸ‡©πŸ‡°

Real conversations with industry leaders. No textbook can replicate this. This is what the annual MEL study trip is about β€” putting our students in the room where decisions are made.

Save the date.

Second MEL Alumni Webinar. January 2026.

Our alumni-only webinar returns with a live lecture by Dr. Maurice Jansen on: πŸ“¦ Green Shipping Corridors

Decarbonisation in shipping is moving fast. Biofuels, methanol, ammonia, wind-assisted propulsion, and the role of ports, energy providers, and shipping companies all matter. Collaboration decides what works.

Webinar Highlight:

Dr Maurice Jansen recently hosted a webinar for Pelindo Indonesia on the role of ports in modern society. He focused on three key ideas:

β€’ Connectivity β€” how well-connected ports shape maritime corridors and influence logistics costs

β€’ Criticality β€” why port resilience matters, especially for island communities when disasters strike

β€’ Community engagement β€” linking port development with well-being, cultures and local networks

The webinar also outlined how MEL supports the maritime sector through two pathways:

For organisations: Tailor-made in-company programmes for port authorities, terminals, logistics companies and public agencies.
