On Tuesday, 20 September at 2PM (CEST), Dr. Eoin McLaughlin will be our guest in our open seminar series. Dr. McLaughlin is a senior Lecturer in Economics at University College Cork. His research interests are in economic, financial and social history. In one of his current projects the aim is to trace levels of sustainability from the mid 19th century to present day using the Genuine Savings Metric (GS). GS is an indicator propagated by the World Bank, measuring progress and development and is proven as a relevant indicator of sustainable development.

Op 20 en 21 mei bracht onderzoeksgroep ICA werkbezoeken aan diverse burgercollectieven in Vlaanderen. Om te beginnen vertelde Henk Mol over de Buren van de Abdij in Gent, die zich richten op behoud van cultureel erfgoed, groen en sociale ontmoetingen. Daarna was het de b***t aan Thomas Blondeel van SMART, een coƶperatieve vennootschap die ondernemers ondersteunt, veelal in de culturele sector. Onderzoeker Damion Bunders (RSM) presenteerde hier de voorlopige uitkomsten van zijn onderzoek naar werkercoƶperaties. Op 21 mei ging de reis naar de Gemene en Loweiden in het West-Vlaamse Assebroek. Hoofdman Marc Vandepitte en professor Tine De Moor (RSM) vertelden over deze common, een springlevend burgercollectief waar zogenoemde aanborgers al 600 jaar het beheer van de grond organiseren.
