Rest in Peace, Kazakh cosmonaut Talğat Amankeldıūly Mūsabaev (January 7th, 1951 – August 4th, 2025)!
Born in the village of Kargaly in the Southeast of the then Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic, part of the USSR, Talğat Mūsabaev graduated from the Riga Civil Aviation Engineers Institute in the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1974, after which he graduated from Higher Military Aviation School in Akhtubinsk, Russian Soviet Socialist Republic, in 1983. Mūsabaev served both as a test pilot and flew civil aircraft like the Antonow An-2 and the Tupolew Tu-134, prior to being selected as a cosmonaut in 1990.
Talğat Mūsabaev flew to space three times as a Soyuz-TM crew member. This included two long-duration missions to the Mir space station in 1994 and 1998, as well as a short-duration mission to the International Space Station in 2001. In total, Talğat Mūsabaev spent 341 days in space and conducted seven Extravehicular Activities (EVA), or spacewalks, with a total EVA time of 41 hours and 13 minutes.
