Found in the Grassington Lead mines in Yorkshire. The UV lamp lights them up as bright purple blocks (but the color doesn’t glow in the dark). A copper penny and scratch them if done very hard, and they don’t really fizzle when I put lemon juice or vinegar on them…

Then this super interesting mineral (I think Calcite)… calcium carbonate, with the chemical formula: CaCO₃
Probably for most of what is shown here. Very interesting to see the mica-ish sides reflecting in the sunlight. the feel is soft, and lots of light coloring is going on. I also think I have some lead (since this was an old lead mine)…. very cool!

Found a ton of fossils and rocks on the Yorkshire Coast during our two weeks there. I would have loved to just hang out there the entire time (at least during low tide)…. it’s hard to pull myself off the beach!
