The Sustainable Development Games are coming to Africa for the first time!

We’re thrilled to announce the 4th edition of the Sustainable Development Games, taking place in Casablanca, Morocco, hosted by the École Française Internationale de Casablanca.

After three incredible editions across Europe and Latin America, our journey continues on a new continent, in the heart of Casablanca, Morocco.

This is more than just a new location. It’s a new chapter.

As always, we will welcome Montessori students and teachers from all over the world. Students aged 12–17 will travel as teams of 2–10, each accompanied by at least 2 coaches. They will be hosted by local Moroccan families, who will play a vital role in opening the doors to Moroccan culture and customs.

There will be sports, activities, and real-world learning. But no rankings, no trophies, no competition. Just young people from across the globe, growing together.

📅 October 10–16, 2027
💶 €499 per person(travel not included)

With the aim of representing as many different countries and cultures as possible, spaces will be limited. We encourage you to declare your interest promptly.

From Strangers to One International Family

Reflecting on an unforgettable week at the Elementary Global Montessori Games 2026 in France, hosted with so much warmth and passion by Graines des Pensées Bilingual Montessori School in Grasse.

Throughout the week, students from the host school in France, Colibri Montessori in France, Scotland, Bulgaria, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands gradually connected more and more through shared experiences, games, culture, laughter, and dance. Unfortunately, the team from Nigeria could not join us after not receiving their visas in time. They were deeply missed.

What started as a group of students from different countries slowly grew into one big international family.

Together we explored the beautiful streets of Grasse and visited the famous perfume museum, discovered Cannes, took a boat trip to an island, learned about marine life in a museum by the sea, and spent time exploring and playing in Nice. During a breathtaking mountain hike, students pushed their boundaries high up in the clouds, surrounded by incredible views of the sea, the mountains, and even the snowy Alps in the distance.

Students shared their traditions, food, dances, and stories during the cultural market, creating moments of genuine connection and understanding.

There was so much joy in the small moments: dancing together, playing games, helping one another, trying new things, and building friendships beyond language and borders.

The farewell was emotional, filled with hugs, tears, gratitude, and of course… more dancing.

Thank you to all students, teachers, host families, volunteers, and everyone who helped make this week so special. These are the kinds of experiences that stay with young people for life.

Seven Years Later, Still Connected | The Lasting Impact of GAMES

Sometimes, the true impact of an experience only becomes visible years later. In 2019, during the very first Global Montessori Games in Nijmegen, something special began. Six Montessori schools from around the world came together, not just to play, but to connect. Students stayed with Dutch host families, sharing daily life, culture, and moments that would stay with them far beyond that week.
It was there that Zara from the Netherlands and Aleksandra from Norway met. What started as a simple host-family stay grew into a genuine friendship. Seven years later, on the other side of the world, their paths crossed again. Last week, they met in Australia and shared their story with us. A story that perfectly captures what GAMES is all about. It made us incredibly happy and proud.

Read what they had to say:

Seven years ago we met in Nijmegen, the Netherlands at the first edition of the Global Montessori Games. This was hosted in 2019. Aleksandra is from Norway and Zara from the Netherlands. Aleksandra stayed at my parents place for the whole week and we became really good friends. We always kept in touch and we would love to see each other again. But as you know life happens. Six years after the Global Montessori Games, Aleksandra moved to The Gold Coast, Australia to study. One year later Zara started her solo traveling in Australia and then we met again. Not in Norway, not in the Netherlands, but on the other side of the world in Australia! It shows how small the world is and how far the distance may be, one day you maybe can meet again!

Connecting Through Movement at MMUN Rome

Just outside Rome, in just a few days, everything came together to capture what GAMES stands for: connection, movement, and meaningful encounters across cultures.

Together with colleague Wilbert Lamers, Roelant Wijngaards - co-founder and president of GAMES - attended the Montessori Model United Nations Conference. As delegates from all over the world began to arrive, the focus was clear: creating space for young people to meet, move, and connect.

That same spirit continued each morning, even before breakfast. While everything was still quiet, small groups gathered to start the day with movement. Beyond the activities with students, there was also time to connect with educators. During a workshop, the deeper intention behind GAMES was shared: how sport and play can become powerful tools for peace education, ownership, and real intercultural understanding.

One of the most memorable moments came during Cultural Night. What began as an evening of sharing traditions from around the world ended with something unexpected and powerful. Together with four girls from the Netherlands and two from the USA - who had joined last year’s Sustainable Development Games in Nijmegen - Roelant and Wilbert stepped onto the stage. Their joint dance performance brought an explosion of energy into the room, closing the evening in a powerful way.

In between all of this, there were countless conversations, reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new ones. Ideas were shared, plans were explored, and the first seeds were planted for new schools to join and even host future GAMES events.

There was also a special visit to the very first Casa dei Bambini, founded by Maria Montessori.
It was a few days that showed, once again, how powerful it is when education goes beyond the classroom, when young people meet, move, and truly connect.
