Hi! I study the 1-year Master in Psychology, specialisation in Cognitive Neuroscience and would like to give you weekly insights into this programme.

My time as ambassador has come to an end!
This final post shows me with the 19th subject for my thesis - only 3 more to go πŸ’ͺ😎

In two months I will finish my thesis and the next generation of cognitive neuroscientists will start their masters, and hopefully enjoy it as much as I did. If you have any questions left, you can still send me a message and me or the University will answer them.

In case you are one of the future master students; we are still looking for an ambassador for the next academic year, so if you are interested, send an email to [email protected]

After acquiring the EEG data from my participants while they were listening to music, I have to go through some steps of pre-processing before I can finally analyze it and see, if there are significant results.
Here you see the so-called N100 response of one participant, displayed via eeglab/Matlab.

Soon my time as an ambassador will be over, but there's still a lot to do before I will finish my master Thesis...

Have a great and sunny weekend! 😎

Did you ever wonder what your brain signal recorded by EEG looks like?
This is the signal from one of my participants: do you see when he is blinking with his eyes?

By the way, I am still looking for more participants, so feel free to contact me!

Last week I had my first subject for the research I'm doing for my master thesis.
To measure the brain activity while the subjects are listening to music, we use a portable EEG cap - this means that the subject is able to stand up and walk around in between the music presentations instead of sitting still for the whole time of data collection. And the cap even looks more fancy than the classic EEG caps! πŸ€“πŸŽ‰

If you're in Maastricht and want to support my study, let me know!

The time has come:
Next week I will start with the measurements of the research I'm doing during my internship for my master thesis. I will collect EEG data while the subjects will be listening to classical music.
Are you interested in participating in a super relaxed EEG study? Send me a message!

Virtual Reality meets Cognitive Neuroscience!
For her internship, a fellow student is investigating the effects of a threatening situation in virtual reality on emotions. This is indeed something different than EEG and fMRI...

Let me know if you want to try this out and be part of her study!

Which career perspectives can be followed by a graduate in Cognitive Neuroscience. In just 60 seconds, my classmate Ethan will tell you more about his future ambitions.

Do you also aim for a career in the field of Cognitive Neuroscience? In which job function would you like to start working? Share your thoughts with me in the comments section below! I am happy to think along with you.

Still not sure about which Master you want to do? Tomorrow is the day!

At the Master's Open Day tomorrow you can ask all your questions regarding the different specialisations which UM offers and also get more insights in the course contents - for example: do you know the exact difference between the masters in Neuropsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience? Ola Pres, Neuropsychology and me can tell you all about it πŸ€“

Master’s Open Day on 16 March 2019. Experience Maastricht University: find out more about one of the most international universities in Europe, immerse yourself in our programmes, and explore our beautiful city.

Make sure to sign up here: https://www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/events/master%E2%80%99s-open-day-16-march-2019

Have you ever heard of fNIRS? This is an optical neuroimaging method which measures changes in blood oxygenation and concentration, which are coupled to increases in neural activation.
Unfortunately I cannot work on the master's open day on Saturday, but you will be able to ask your questions to my fellow student Ethan, who is working with fNIRS in his internship.

For my internship I will look for the effect of music (repetitions) on brain activity as measured by EEG.
On the picture I am wearing a mobile EEG cap while preparing to watch and listen to the instruments playing a music piece. Seems like I couldn't sit still, as the EEG signal at that moment is super noisy πŸ€“

It feels extra good to watch the sunset by the Maas after a day spent working on my master thesis 😍 I appreciated the river even more after learning how my brain reconstructs visual input into a cortical representation

Maastricht might be a small city, but it has many beautiful places to go to, even in the winter πŸ†’πŸ’ƒ
